I'm simply citing a case from 2015 where a trained officer with a pistol dispatched two shooters with rifles. Apparently this Broward County coward and 3 of his colleagues couldn't be bothered to enter the building. I'm guessing you've never fired a weapon so you probably don't realize that the tactical advantages an AR-15 provides (or any rifle for that matter) really are only seen over longer ranges. A rifle can have an effective range of several hundred yards (which is why it was so easy for Oswald to pop Kennedy at 90+ yards). A pistol has an effective range of 50-75 yards. That difference puts a pistol shooter at a great disadvantage in open ground, but once within a structure the pistol and rifle shooter are closer in footing than you realize. The rifle still is somewhat superior there, but the pistol shooter (especially if trained) has far greater of a chance than you would realize. Considering Cruz was reportedly an awful shot, he would not have stood much of a chance vs. a trained pistol shooter within the confines of a structure. In fact the trained pistol shooter holds an advantage over an untrained rifle shooter like Cruz. By going inside of a structure, Cruz surrenders whatever advantage his choice of weapon grants him. |
