Angel Hernandez sucks and doesn't get the benefit of the doubt, but based on those highlights, Schwarber absolutely should have been 100% ready for that pitch to be called a strike.

I've had a long time beef with umpires who have their own strike zone. The whole "he's been calling that a strike the whole game" excuse doesn't fly with me. Why do I as a professional hitter, have to change my entire routine because the umpire refuses to be professional? That crap can have a hangover effect. Next thing you know, you're chasing for the entire series.

Umpires shouldn't have their own strike zone, but... You can justifiably complain about it as a professional hitter all you want, but is it an "excuse" or a "fact?" When it's called a strike in the first inning and it's called a strike in the 9th inning (again, not that Angel Hernandez gets the benefit of the doubt, see the tweet), that's on you for not being professional enough to figure it out. If sports weren't up their own asses about the "human element" maybe we could have robo umps, but we don't because that's what MLB wants. Go collectively bargain for it or something.

I'm with you, but Angel Hernandez is consistently bad....this is a broader problem than one game and the players know this. MLB needs to do something about it. consistently bad doesn't excuse bad.

Hernandez is equally bad for both teams. He's not favoring one team over the other; so teams going into games with Hernandez behind the plate should realize they need to be ready to swing at pitches outside the zone, esp with 2 strikes.

That goes to Nardi's point above. Why should a hitter have to swing at obvious balls when only 1 umpire calls them strikes? They can see the same pitch 100 times in a row and only one ump will call it a strike.
