Quote:
The Santa Fe District Attorney's Office announced Monday it is dropping the gun enhancement charge -- a crime that would have carried a five-year sentence if convicted -- against Alec Baldwin in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of "Rust" in October 2021.

Baldwin still faces a charge of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting, however, that crime would carry a lesser sentence of 18 months if convicted. The amended complaint was filed late Friday.

The charge was also dropped against armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who faces the same involuntary manslaughter charge as Baldwin.

"In order to avoid further litigious distractions by Mr. Baldwin and his attorneys, the District Attorney and the special prosecutor have removed the firearm enhancement to the involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of Halyna Hutchins on the 'Rust' film set," Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said in a statement. "The prosecution's priority is securing justice, not securing billable hours for big-city attorneys."

The decision to drop the charge was a win for Baldwin, who makes his first court appearance on Friday.

It was really odd that the D A. tried to charge him with on a law that was passed after he murdered that poor woman.

He definitely would have attacked that guy if he hadn't been filming.

I'd ignore it.

Anyway, I don't think the guy is taking his picture daily. That would be pretty tough since he's all over the country doing First Amendment audits.

You know there are cameras everywhere. There ain't a damn thing any of us can do about it. So it becomes just like guns. Powerful people want "gun control" as long as they're protected by guns. The same people hate cameras unless the camera is under their control.

I'm not sure why a guy holding a camera is so much more offensive than the multiple cameras Alec Badwin undoubtedly has ringing his property.

I understand his status is supposed to have him programmed to ignore these things, but I'm confident it would piss both of us off.

For me I think "pissed off" would be too strong. Of course it would annoy me. But a lot of shit annoys me. If I confronted every motherfucker that annoyed me, I'd probably be dead. Or at least missing teeth.

Baldwin is a rich actor, one of the most privileged people on the planet. One of the prices he has to pay for that is assholes taking photos of him. I think most people would accept those terms.

And again, there are now cameras everywhere. I'm fascinated by the psychology that allows people to ignore those that are mounted on every surface while losing their shit over the few that are held in people's hands.

I don't disagree.

Those cameras are essentially invisible to us. If a creepy guy or woman were holding them, we would instantly notice. Also, the world isn't sharing an unflattering photo that was taken of us regularly.

when does netflix make the 8-part docuseries about it? and then renew it for a second season like "dahmer" and "the watcher".

It’d be kind of hilarious if Baldwin starred as himself.

I’d watch.

Hire Trump to play Baldwin assuming they aren't both in jail at the time.

What would you think of a cop pulling you over, you say I wasn't speeding officer, he says no you weren't, but you would have been if I wasn't behind you the whole time.
Is it fair to call you a speed demon?

He shot two people with one bullet from a gun he never fired.

Not the type of guy you want to fuck with.

Criminal charges against Alec Baldwin will be dropped in the Rust case, Yahoo Entertainment has confirmed. The actor faced two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. As of now, the film's weapons handler, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, still has charges standing against her.

"We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident," the actor's attorneys, Luke Nikas amd Alex Spiro, tell Yahoo.

sounds like they bought off the cinematographer chick's family, her hubby is now an exec producer on the rebooted Rust production--moved to more gun-play friendly Montana from New Mexico.

Prosecutors aren't likely to drop a prosecution against a viable defendant if the murder victim's family doesn't support the move.

The weapons prop master who has neither the fame nor the money of Baldwin, will still be burned at the stake. Baldwin did lose his Saturday night live Trump impression gig because they got someone a lot better so it’s not a total win for him.

or maybe blame the producers who hired a 23 year old whose lone previous engagement in a similar role ended in unplanned on-set discharges and pissed off actors.

I'm surprised-not-surprised they are letting the adults in the room walk away without any criminal repercussions. Seemed like the prosecutors in New Mexico had Baldwin lined up to at least take an involuntary (wo)manslaughter plea once the assistant director dude copped a plea for 6 months or whatever sentence he got. David Hall? He was the guy who plucked the murder weapon off the armorer's cart and carried it into Baldwin.
