Its completely unlistenable with ZZ doing any pbp at all. And it's about 97% unlistenable with the ridiculous number of "sponsored" reads during the action. Just for fun Sunday I counted 6 in a half inning. Thats insane.
While we're at it, the TV broadcast sucks too. Hard. Boog as I've said before blows. The production sucks. The banter between guys suck.

It all sucks.

And with the Cubs sucking it sucks worse than it would otherwise.

Just to further point on zaidman and how much he sucks, he's a typical type of call he makes.

"One out... man on first, the pitch, drilled up the middle.... and... a double play ends the inning".

You're doing radio, moondick. How about I dunno, describe what happened! For about 3 seconds there it counts like a basehit into center then its dead air and the inning is over.

The sponsored reads are out of control. It has diminished the broadcast significantly.

I don't know how they keep track of every stupid scenario that causes a read to happen. There's got to be at least a dozen minimum each inning.

The sing songy voice and the over pronunciation doesn't help?

The crazy amount of reads corresponded with the move to the Score. It is so overtop. They clearly do not care about the quality of the broadcast.

The Iowa TV PBP guy did a few of the Marquee TV games in spring training. He was pretty good. Give him Zaidman's gig but let him do 3 innings (say 3,4, and 8), and the full game when Pat goes over to do TV or takes a night game off.

What's fun is when they do a read in the middle of another read.

Pat Hughes sucks big time too.

He must have sucked dick to get inducted into the hall of fame.

Everyone on the ballot was so much more deserving than him.

i guess you like no telling the score every half inning. Because the score isn't important to tell the listeners WHEN IT'S ON THE FUCKING RADIO!

He's coasted the last 10 seasons. Fucked over that score kid.

Pat Hughes is terrific calling the action. He and Ron Coomer work well together. The broadcast is burdened by ridiculously heavy sponsor plugs, a mandate banning critiquing the Cubs, and a very boring team the last couple of years. Hughes can be very dry and commonplace when not calling the action. ZZ is like nails on a chalkboard and Spiegel is too effeminate.

Oh my god what is with boogs fascination with exit velocity? A line-out to center field, routine play to end the inning... but this dope has to point out that it has an exit velo of 100.2 mph. Who the fuck cares? Next half inning, he mentions exit velo at least twice.

Oh and he also said that "animal crackers are less accessible today". The fu k are you talking about? Good lord. Can we please for the love of God fire the jamoke and get someone else in there to call games?

I listen to a lot of games on the radio from essentially every team, Hughes and Coomer are hands down a top five broadcast team, and I'd argue they are the best. I'd listen to some arguments for Charlie Steiner and Rick Monday, or Jon Miller and crew out in San Francisco. Tom Hamilton in Cleveland is great also. I get that the reads and ads are laborious but that's not the fault of Hughes and Coomer. That would be like blaming Nico Hoerner because you don't like the video boards at Wrigley.

They are a great listen to regardless if the Cubs are winning or losing. No broadcast is ever going to be perfect but I think Hughes and Coomer come the closest. I don't get all of the ZZ hate here. He knows his role as the third wheel. I never get the feeling that he's trying to be more to the broadcast than his role.
