Went to the hat store in the mall called Lids.

I was amazed at all the different type of hats and the variations they have made. I saw this cool white sox cap on there that had the chicago skyline in the back and old comiskey logo. it looked like this one here but it was gold colored instead of blue

They had so many different varities for all teams EXCEPT ONE

All they had for the cubs was the boring C hat. It's no longer blue either, its like this circus clown purple now. Soooo boring, so unimaginative, I said no way I'm going to spend money on that boring piece of shit when the entire sporting world has moved on to upgrading their designs and having such cool hats.

Funny story.

Went ahead and bought a cubs hat.

Was at the framers market yesterday.

Guy saw my hat and yells Cubs!

I said yes , we’re crawling out of the woodwork again.

He chuckled.

The image hit my mind. Little ants or roaches crawling out of the wood of a home or a log in the forest with little purpleish blue cubs hats.

Did you try the internet? Because Lids isn't going to stock everything in their stores.

And this is the best hat.

I have an interesting incident tonight I wanted to share.

Wife and I were at the grocery store , and I was wearing my Cubs hat.

Lo and behold ANOTHER guy in the store was also wearing a cubs hat! The odds of that happening here in a non-tourist area has to be astronomical. but it happened.

We glanced quickly at each other and we both went to total ignore mode. Not making eye contact and trying to go to the other side of the store.

My lady friend was like where you going, I have to buy fruits. I was like I"m going to check the cheese section but I really wanted to get away from that other guy with the cubs hat.

Then I did some introspection and I guess we all want to feel special, have some kind of special niche to garner praise or attention. I guess if this happened in chicago where everyone wears a cubs hat nobody cares but in a place where you never see a cubs hat, maybe I feel like i'm special in some kind of way to claim to be the only one on the island that can wear one. I bet the other guy felt the same.

So much to unpack there. The wife, the ladyfriend, two guys beelining to opposite ends of the store. Fruits and introspection.

Whomst among us hasn't run away from another man in a grocery store who’s accessorized in a similar manner?

i was traumatized in 2003 after they blew the NLCS. I wore the hat after game 7 and people started giggling and staring at me like I was a fool or clown on how the cubs blew it that year.

i don't want to ever experience that same public humiliation, misery and shame again.

As soon as I break out my Covid pen, they run from me.
