There are tow truck companies that rush to the scene of every accident solely to hook up your car and bend over your insurance company. It sounds like Hoffy allowed one of those companies to take away his car by accident.

I had another tow truck driver explain it to me. Roadside Assistance sends a text message saying that the tow truck company has arrived. They have all your information and they tow the vehicle away, but right before they arrive, they cancel with Roadside. Roadside thinks they never towed the car, but then they drop the vehicle in an impound lot. Then they try to extort the customer or insurance company when they try to get the car. Even though I have an actual record proving the tow truck company arrived and took the car, the police don't care because its a civil matter.

Essentially, yes. He won't give me a price because he's trying to get the money from Allstate. Roadside attempted to send another two truck there and when I talked to that driver, its when I found out he was trying to charge $4k.

I did call back the original tow truck driver. The first time, he answered with the name of the tow company Allstate dispatched. Then he realized it was me and hung up. The guy who is actually holding my car called me as well, but he used a fake name and fake company. I tracked him down to Goshen, IN. Wasn't too hard to find him.

Still at a standstill. Claims can't assign an adjuster, which makes sense since everyone is gone for the holiday.

On the plus side, the guy who has my car is Middle-Eastern and lives in Merrillville, IN. He has a couple of summonses that he's dealing with, so I'm hoping to throw another one on that fire. People fucking suck.

Day 12. I'm never seeing my car again. The guy holding my car hostage is now asking for over $6K. Every time I call the claims department, they say they escalated my claim to some manager somewhere and they are working hard on it.

I think at this point you can shoot him and claim domestic terrorism.

Yeah, that was kind of ridiculous. I at least vetted the driver as being with the same company Allstate dispatched. Still have his phone number and information, including the message from Allstate Roadside telling me he arrived at the same time he called me. The guy even offered me weed, so I felt pretty good about him.

Actually, the guy kind of scares the hell out of me. The tow truck company I'm pretty certain took my vehicle from the original driver had an employee hold the place hostage not too long ago: https://www.southwestmessengerpress.com/articles/featured/potential-tragedy-prevented-at-local-towing-company/

I had Allstate for a few years and some time around 2021 their rates for Homeowers and Auto raised significantly. Quick shop-around and dropped their ass.

Similar experience with our homeowners and State Farm. It was easy to settle into inertia, maybe because it was all rolled up into the mortgage payment. But I eventually shopped it and was able to lop it nearly in half through Geico.

Now I shop both our places annually as a matter of routine.

Today marks day 50 since my "minor" accident.

Allstate finally got the car out of the lot. Cost them something like $8K. Apparently they sent this tow truck guy four times to negotiate down the price.

Car has been in the shop the past three weeks. Finally got into it and they ransacked the inside. Thankfully nothing valuable was taken. There was a bunch of additional damage, including the door and the suspension. The shop lost a few days because they didn't listen when I said OnStar blocked the ignition. They called today to have me pick the car up. I start it, pull away and hit the brakes... CLICK CLICK CLICK GRIIIIIIIINNNNDDDD. Hit reverse and backed it up right back into the shop. Now I have to wait until their mechanic looks at it again this week.

Allstate will have paid $8K for the tow impound, $1K for the rental the past 50 days, and $10K for the body shop repair.

Surprised they didn't just total it or thrown in the towel and call it stolen.

Better than state farm, who makes fun of a guy's accent speaking a second language fluently.

Let's be honest, everyone makes fun of his accent.

Post subject:  Re: Allstate Insurance

Noise in the brakes was related to "lot rot". Since the car was sitting exposed for so long, water from the rain and snow got in and rusted out the rotors. Need to replace the front rotors and pads. Another $300 to now do a full inspection and at least $1,000 for rotors and pads.

If I can't talk to Jake at 2AM, I'm not going with State Farm.
