I remember years ago reading Whitlock and I thought Jason had a unique voice, good perspective on sports, esp delineating the mainstream media's divergent approaches to black athletes vs non-black (still an issue) and was overall an enjoyable--if challenging-in-a-not-the-best-writer way--read. But since then it's been downhill Christmas Vacation bobsled style. His writing has improved tho; all that effort on that Black Grantland/Undefeated project maybe helped out there.
