Race baiting asswipe.
Claims that Todd Strogers budget would pass if he were white...
http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/670253,CST-NWS-county28.article
Cook County Board President Todd Stroger can't get his budget passed "because he's black," his floor leader angrily charged Tuesday.

Quote:
Commissioner William Beavers said "if Todd was a white man, he wouldn't have half these problems," further alleging "this is a remake of the Harold Washington days" at City Hall, where racially fueled votes often ended in 29-21 decisions.
"Who's gonna control the county -- white or black -- that's all this is," he said.
Beavers railed on that one of Stroger's top critics, Commissioner Tony Peraica, "hates everybody who's black ... all black elected officials," going on to say Peraica used to beat up black people growing up in the Bridgeport neighborhood
.
Look asshole, the budget isn't passing because Todd created a huge mess with his 8th Ward patronage and that is a damn good reason why the expenses are so high. The INTELLEGENT menbers of the county board know that it's gonna be political suicide to vote for an 11% sales tax, the businesses will do everything in their power to remove commissioners who vote for this becasue they rightly know that this is terrible for their business.
Beavers, you are out of line for calling Peraica a racist. That word is thrown around way too damn much. It creates resentment, and propegates racism. What are we doing here? Why create race wars?
I am tired of hearing claims like this.

Racial politics seem to be making a strong return this election season. It will be even more apparent in the run for State's Attorney.

This was my favorite part of the story:

Sun-Times Article wrote:
When commissioners voted to make cuts to county Recorder Gene Moore's office, cuts Moore said he supports, Beavers implied Moore wasn't smart enough to understand the cuts and Republican commissioners must have used racial intimidation to get him to agree.

Just keep slinging shit and see what sticks...

Is Beavers a Douchebag? Absolutely. Nomination fits. Sad he won't read this nomination, but if he did, he might see how inappropriate his comments are.

A good Douchebag might clean up Beavers.

you could douchebag just about everyone on the cook county board and as well as everyone at chicago city hall. thier BS and inneficeincy has driven up costs so much that the they have to raise taxes to incredible levels. interesting how there was no talk of these gov't employees taking an even minute paycut to help close this budget gap

exactly. if the guys making 6 figures cut thier pay by even 0.10%, it wouldnt affect thier bottom line (or the countys) all that much, but it would sure as hell be good PR

Wrong, unless you mean county commissioners rather than department heads, who are also called commissioners.

Wrong.

Low six figures + house in chicago + family= no room to be taking unpaid days.

This is the same argument that astounds me when people talk about player contracts when offers are different by several million dollars.

The low six figures is correct, but represents their "on the side" income. Cook County Commissioner is not a full time job.

I don't think a county commissioner makes in the low six figures. I think they make somewhere around 70K but I understand your point. I thought he meant the administrative department commissioners.

My commissioner (Greg Goslin) makes about 110K. I assume they all make the same salary.

No, he's also a . . . .

Isn't it shocking??

alright so, lets assume he works what 55 hrs a week lawyering?
how much time is spent being a commish for 85k?
does he go to 20, two hour meetings a year?

we should assume this guy is probably making a total of $225k if he's a partner at an "average" firm...

that's a lot of scratch.
doubt he's struggling if i'm remotely close.

you have to live within your means. 85K should be enough for a decent house and the tipical 1.5 kids. now if you have all sorts of extravagant and material things(like a gazeebo or floor hockey rink with a PBR tap ;)), then 85K per year probably wont cover that.

my folks are anything but rich, but they certainly arent hurting either and i would guesstimate that the household income is roughly 90K

That's about 50K more than I make at a full time job; he makes that for basically a side job.

Sorry if they feel that they aren't paid enough or could do with a paycut.

Illinois politics as a whole are really hurting this state. The smoke-free ban was moronic, the Cook County Sales Tax, additional tax for eating fast food, 78 bucks for you licence renewal for a 30 cent sticker, taxed for being taxed. Hell ORLAND FREAKIN' PARK has a higher sales tax just for being Orland.

You know its bad when shopping for a TV at Best Buy and the sales kid tells you to got to the store off of I-80, as the taxes are lower there.
