The commercials are not going to result in any significant changes in driving habits and for a state so deep in debt to be spending millions of dollars advertising all over TV and radio with their ads is just an awful waste of money that is desperately needed for roads, bridges, Police, schools.....etc.

can you confirm the source of the money that is being used to pay for the ads? If it is being funded through a federal grant, it likely isnt cost the state a whole lot. plus, if it is grant funded then beggars cant be choosers on how the money is spent. if it is coming out of a line item and is 100% state funding... then you MAY have a gripe

basically figure out how they are being paid for before you bitch about it.

They're going to need the commercials when weed is legalized.

Also complaining about IL government spending is useless if they don't reform the pension system.

You believe people's driving habits are truly influenced by those ads? I don't think they have any significant effect.

The next thing you know, you'll have oil pipe people running ads even though there really aren't that many people that think it is a bad idea.

Or ads for the only company that produces electricity.

That's why they passed an income and gas tax increase so we're all set.

Those ads are produced and aired by corporations that make huge profits and therefore have lots of money to spend. The life and death Illinois ads are produced and then aired by a state that is in dire financial straits and cannot afford to be spending that money.

You should protest these ads by setting yourself on fire.

These commercials are paid for by Federal traffic safety funds. So, they can't go for police or schools. We don't know for certain if they could be spent on roads or bridges but it may very well be a requirement that it is used for educating the public on dangerous activities. However, the State of Illinois is not paying for these though IDOT does administer the funds that are given by our true rulers.
