WOODSTOCK – During the holiday season, the McHenry County Sheriff Bill Prim said the office made reducing the deadly dangers from drunken driving a top priority.
Sheriff’s deputies were out in force to arrest those who put themselves and others on the road at risk because of intoxicated driving, police said.

From Dec. 19 to Jan. 4 the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office made the following arrests and issued the following citations as part of this traffic campaign:

• 2 DUI arrests

• 3 drug arrests

• 3 driving while license suspended arrests

• 3 no valid driver’s license

• 20 no insurance citations

• 93 speeding citations

“The bottom line is, if you have been drinking alcohol, you don’t belong behind the wheel. Never drink and drive,” Sheriff Bill Prim said. “If you plan to drink, have a plan, have a designated driver so everyone can get safely home."

The recent law enforcement crackdown was funded by federal traffic safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket campaigns.

Wow! Holy Smokes! Take a look at Mr. Tough Talk on drinking and driving. Not without merit, mind you, but the BRAGGING about 2 fuckin arrests over 2 weeks? WOW, what a SPECIAL program you ran. Impressive results.
Loser.

Agreed:

I would expect McHenry County to be full of fucking drunks.

Your expectation is accurate. It is full of drunks. Some drunken bastard nearly killed my wife and I on the way home from Christmas dinner at my Dad's house.
This nitwit had roadblocks, safety checks and overtime officers. He bagged 2 goddamn drunks. 2.
Which is great. Very nice.
But the tough talk? The "Doncha DUUUR drive drunk in my county!" tough guy Lee Van Cleef wanna be motherfucker.

Cops are notorious drunks. Back in my early 20's, when I was known to close a bar or two, I would see cops come in after their softball games, and drink until they fell off their barstools. Hypocrites.

Jeez, I thought the punchline was going to be that the sheriff got popped for DUI after the article you quoted ran.
The article just lists stats. I didn't see any self righteous windbag asshole-ry in his quote.
Nomination denied.

OK. I'm sayin the dude took fed money, ran overtime past budgets, talks super tough and netted less arrests than they'd typically get on any given Saturday morning. DOUCHEBAGGERY SAYS I

OK, I don't live there so I'll have to take your word for it.
Just seems like an innocuous little puff blurb in the paper.
Is this guy a DB in general, or did this just grind your gears?

typo. should have been 2000.

when I was a kid in the 70s, Algonquin was 2500 people and had about 15 taverns in it. they'd pull you over if you weren't weaving cuz they knew you were from out of town.

LaSalle County used to have the 2nd most bars per capita in the US after Orange County.

People would make their garage into a bar, literally. Anybody could get a license.

I've always been surprised by bars per capita here in Kenosha. Seems to be one on every corner

Did they at least try to spin it that their tough talk worked b/c no one was out driving drunk? Because that's "drug testing welfare recipients" level of bad.

Back in the day, my wife was a journalist covering cops/courts, etc. She always said that McNulty from 'The Wire' was the prototypical detective. She always preferred to deal with the firefighters as they were only heavy drinkers, the cops were all trying to get in her pants too.

Carpentersville in th 90s. Cops would go out drinking, then leave in their cars at 2am drag racing on rt 31.

I got in an argument on twitter with a guy who was defending this program. Even when I explained that it was a waste of money in every state where it was implemented, he still wouldn't hear it. He even made up numbers of 5-10% users that get caught, even though the articles claimed the number was less than 1%. I accused him of supporting class warfare, which is what this program is. He denied that, even though he said, and I quote, "I don't care how much it costs, if they catch one person gaming the system, it's a good thing."

That was the end of it for me.
