They hit a defenseless, unprotected person on the field from behind and while he was down. They should be in jail. You do realize that the official could have been severely injured, right? I don't think an apology cuts.

They are not going to go to jail for this. Maybe probation if charges are filed. I could see a school suspension but no way they will be booted out for this.

I am on your side on this. Just because things happen during a sport doesn't mean we can't reasonably look at the actions and decide if they are within the spirit of the game or not. Part of the whole reason we have grand juries. Honestly don't understand any defense to this.
