A 13-year-old Poulsbo boy was accidentally shot by his stepmother Monday night while she was trying to unload a gun, Poulsbo police reported.

Melissa Gibbs, 24, was arrested on suspicion of assault following the 8:50 p.m. shooting in the 18000 block of Meadow Run Drive, said Poulsbo Sgt. Brandy Duncan.

The boy was listed in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a broken leg Tuesday night, a nursing supervisor said.

Duncan said the shooting followed a heated argument between Gibbs and her 39-year-old husband, Karic Gibbs.

Karic Gibbs reportedly had picked up the loaded gun. He later put it down and left the upstairs room, Duncan said.

They almost make it sound like the gun went and did it by itself.
The gun killed those people, not a deranged asshole who was known by the FBI and local law enforcement and whose family knew he was suicidal but gave him his gun anyway.
