Cafe Kismet,indeed!
This is going to turn into the "i know Shirtless driver when he used to Rock n Roll!"
I had met Mark Elilololololololpolos through mutual friends. We were at a party and had this super long, detailed discussion on why "Gish" has the greatest recorded snare drum sound, ever!. To this day, I'd have to agree. I didn't know Mark well at all...just met him a handful of times and seemed like a good Dude. I found out way after the fact that he was in Stabbing Westward. I also had known his GF at the time, Karen? (she was one of a twin). Worked with her at the shit hole known as Six Flags.
My memories of the Kismet show was
a) playing a cover of "that is why" by Jellyfish
b) before playing "Mr. Moustache" by Nrivana the introduction was something along the lines of "This is a really bad song, by a really bad band".
I enjoyed the show a lot. Your band was very good. I'm thinking this went all the way back to '92?
I believe you also played a CLC Battle of the Bands? My friends Bill Stewart and Matt Ryan were in one of those shows, but the name of the band changed so much I couldn't recall. I was away at ISU by then and had limited time at home with that scene.
Oh wow...........
Me and Mark had a major falling out in 2001, but I am happy to say we are back on speaking terms and it's going well. One of my best friends ever. He is a great guy. Maybe his gf's name was Susan at that time? And yeah, we were WAY into Gish, still are. Heh, I worked at Great America in the YouSing recording studio right by where the Edge was....
And yeah, we were totally in on the ground floor on Jellyfish. I don't quite recall the Nirvana cover, but I'm sure it was horrible.
And yessir, you are correct, we did play at, I think 2, of the CLC BOTB - we won one, and our prize was opening for Birds At The End Of The Road........
I put out a message on FB to try and find out what Bill and Matt's band was called, I worked with Matt briefly at Uline in 2001. Solid dude.
