That's because Grohl played the drums.
He's a much better drummer than people realize, because he's too busy I'VE GOT ANOTHER CONFESSION TO MAKE. His drumming with Queens of the Stone age on Songs for the Deaf is some of my favorite to play. Also, he played on one song for Zac Brown Band's "The Grohl Sessions." I didn't realize it at first, but I kept listening to "Let it Rain" and I kept thinking that there's something unique and interesting about this drumming compared to "All Alright." Sure enough, Grohl sat in on drums for Let it Rain.
Yup, Grohl is excellent on Songs for the Deaf, and the Them Crooked Vulture album.
His side-project Probot from many years back is also a solid listen.
