Good call

Arctic Monkeys are just noisy crap.

Arctic Monkeys are, to my ear, amateur glam rock, double entendres and all. I don't know if you want to go down that road, because I know you love glam rock. Maybe the "Mrs. Brown you've got a lovely daughter" stuff is BPF, for sure.

You gotta put Marillion under BPR. Do you remember dawn escapes from moon-washed college halls? Do you remember cherry blossoms in the market square?

I have multiple points:

1) Making Movies is a better album than Brothers in Arms. The song Brothers in Arms is solid enough to be part of Making Movies album.
1a) I personally am glad that Hatchetman did not own Making Movies because he was not exposed to Romeo and Juliet...crying in his pillow at the dorm may have led to a negative final outcome for hatchetboy.
2) Money for Nothing was a great MTV song. That was about it. I want to punch puppies when I hear the first notes of Walk of Life (who hoo...)
3) The remainder of the Dire Straits catalog doesn't move bowels or anything else for that matter.
4) While I may be a double-bogey poster here at CFMB, I am going to step up my game and ask an 'on par' CFMB question. Who are these British Puss Rock Bands? Why have I never heard of this genre before?

and thanks for listening.

In many of these discussions Beni is my mult. I think there was a thread on this but we agree on an odd amount of things...Making Movies included. I also like Knopfler's soundtrack work fwiw.

Pick Withers' tasty drumming nowhere to be found.

He was a big part of their sound on the 1st four albums.

Even if you like Marillion (I...sorta...do :/), you have to admit this is dogshit cover art:

Incidentally, today I was listening to XTC and I realized my favorite period of rock, 1976-1992, coincides with the lifespan of XTC. It's also that of the Thatcher government and Reagan/Bush administrations plus-minus a few years on either side: great music flourishes under conservative governments, except for the one we have now, where all we seem to have is the kid who raps about a horse.

EDIT: my second favorite is roughly that of the George W. Bush administration. The system works?

Moody Blues not British Puss Rock....not even close.

I don't mind the Denny Laine Moody Blues but that "Breathe Deep" crap is definitely BPR.

Good music for when you are high. After that, they became a pop band, a sort of pre-cursor to Mike + The Mechanics.

Knopfler is probably my all-time favorite guitarist. Exhibit A would be Rockpalast 79. There’s something like 40 soundboards & FM broadcasts from 1978 to 1996. I recall getting deep into that rabbit hole for like a 6 month period when I was in my late 20s. I haven’t even gone back to his catalog much since then. I think of it like if you ask a bro why he broke up with a hot chick and his answer is “I fucked her out”.

Had always heard Sting wrote Money for nothing and regretted not keeping it.

Seems odd considering he sang on that track.

I thought Sting has a writing credit for quoting the melody of "Don't Stand So Close To Me."

The only Moodies albums I have are the first two and I like them, in spite or and because of the schmaltz. The front end of On the Threshold of a Dream is really good.

EDIT: turns out Days of Future Passed and On the Threshold of a Dream are not the first two. Anyway, they're the only two.

I support the Dire Straits. Fantastic stuff. I wish they would have formed a supergroup with Steely Dan and the Pink Floyd.

Steely Dan and Dire Straits suffer the same problem...they both need a real lead vocalist.

I would argue that Fagen has a uniquely sardonic voice that is perfect for Steely Dan. It wouldn't play in any other setting.

Ya know how most woman want to vomit when they here some vintage Rush with Geddy Lee screaching for dear life? That's my reaction to Steely Dan vocals. I take nothing away for the musicianship of the band but that voice is terrible. "do it again" to this day is the only song of theirs I can enjoy.

The album will be 35 years old next year!

you didnt say who sings it dumbshit.
