"Spectacular" is not the word I would use, though I'm sure they were occasionally spectacular. They could also be dreadful. But that's all part of the package. No two nights were ever the same. They were more about the vibe. A show could be great even if it was uneven musically. They're really one of a kind. There are others that have tried to pick up the mantle, but no one has really done it. I saw them four times. They were radically different each time.

I don't think The Doors get enough respect. They always seem to get left off the first tier of greatest bands of all time lists.

Hot take alert... I think the doors are mediocre at best. Morrisons "poetry" is pedestrian at best, garbage generally.

Good tunes, guitar sound was very unique, Morrison was a badass rock star. I'll give you the goofy lyrics i.e. The End, but that's what made them fun.

Morrison definitely had his hot and cold moments. Ray Manzarek was an animal on the keyboard, though. Musically he was without a doubt the best part of that band.

The Grateful Dead is the greatest American rock band. As a cultural institution, they're the biggest and best we have. All the other legendary bands are from the other side of the pond. All our best are solo acts, befitting our individualist spirit. Tom Petty, Frank Zappa, Bruce Springsteen, and Neil Young (who's Canadian anyway) were all functionally solo artists. The Cars were really good, though.

These 10 are pretty good. I’d argue that Aerosmith, Journey, Metallica and maybe the Beastie Boys could work their way into a few of these slots. Three ‘90’s grunge bands being there might be a stretch but if you go top 20 I’d say all 3 stay. Foo Fighters also probably in the discussion whether you think they’re bland or generic.
