Audio of that night, where he got the cheap applause (it's all cheap in Normal) with this rendition...

BTW, funniest thing I saw while matriculating there..a wedding announcement that said "Normal (IL) Man to wed Oblong (IL) Woman"

The Dillards were fantastic (saw them around 1993). Any CJ Chenier show from 87-90 was great.

Watched my share of tango shows in Argentina, which I really enjoyed.

And the oddball show - Royal Drummers of Burundi. Crazy good.

People have no idea who good the U2 concerts at Soldier Field in '97 were.

They're always worth the price of admission. I don't even like them that much. But goddam, they know how to put on a show.

The Popmart tour was my first ever concert (outside of like The Buckinghams or something at a local fest). I really wasn't even a U2 fan at that point, but it was a terrific experience.

I can't really say it was the best. Some may say it was the worst. But it was really something to see:

R.L. Burnside at Double Door is one that's really memorable though.

Wow, that's badass.

I just found this show on Youtube. I didn't really feel like going out that night but my friend was trying to bang this broad who was gonna be there and he didn't want to go by himself. Being from Chicago, I had seen a lot of tired ass blues performances and had been disappointed time and time again by guys I considered legendary just mailing it in.

I didn't really know who T-Model Ford (he was the opener) and Burnside were but I figured it was just gonna be the same old bullshit I had seen a million times before- busted down versions of "Smokestack Lightnin'" and "Sweet Home Chicago". Model T Ford was kind of in that vein. Let's just say I was less than impressed. I was annoyed that this guy had dragged me out for this.

Then R.L. came out. He sat down in a chair- the guy was old- and his grandson Cedric got behind the drums and a second guitarist- a white guy who looked like a methhead named Kenny Brown- stood up next to R.L. I could tell that Cedric and Kenny were cranked out of their minds, high as fuck and R.L. probably had no clue. Cedric attacked that kit like a cross between Bonham and Lars and Kenny and R.L. started cuttin' it loose. It was like fuckin' punk rock to the max. This recording can't really do it justice. This shit was heavy:

Bob Mould half acoustic/half electric. Metro I was against the back wall, I never heard an acoustic played that hard or loud ever in my life

Mould is still on my must see list solo - saw him when he did Sugar.

For me, recency bias but seeing Cage the Elephant at the Eagles Club Dec 2019 was really awesome, played for 2 hours and was just awesome that night.

Seen many great shows along the way - Rush, Elton/Joel, U2 but that Cage show really sticks out to me.

Rethinking this, isn't the greatest concert your first one?

Augie, Mae - Was that the Hot Space Tour?
Some dude has posted a bunch of 79-82 Queen concerts on youtube, mostly from Europe and Japan. Some of the audio from those shows is solid.

Pleasantly surprised to see some of my favorites in these posts. Not seeing Peter Gabriel in 1982 was my all time regret. Had a ticket for the UIC Pavilion but couldn't score a ride. Later shows were good but never got to see the monkey makeup live. Billy Squier is another act I wish I saw live. Wrongfully canceled by the Rock Me Tonight video before I had a chance. I still see Bob Mould solo just about every time he plays in Chicago and always wear earplugs.

Some of the best concerts I did make in no particular order: Nirvana, Aragon 1993; David Bowie, Rosemont Horizon 1983; Sammy Hagar, UIC Pavilion 1983; REM, Purdue Hall of Music 1987; Roger Waters, Wrigley Field 2012; Material Issue, Cubby Bear 1991?; Wilco, Vic 1993; Neil Diamond, United Center 2008.

Fucking lost my voice @ Of Wolf and Man. One of my favorite deep tracks. When they played it, I lost my shit!

Made it to the mosh pit @ Fight Fire with Fire. Was insanely crazy and fun.

Creeping Death encore was the perfect end to a perfect night.

Couldn't get out of the parking lot (corn fields) so we partied all night with the 50,000 + stuck in their cars. :drunken: :alien:
