New album and no Dan Bejar?! Glorious news!

The single sounds decent. I'm excited. Dan Bejar has been mailing it in for a decade. And even at his best, his songs were not the best ones on each album.

UPDATE: New album, the band's 7th, to be released on September 27, 2019. No Dan Bejar again.

"High Ticket Attraction" is solid. New NPs, Elbow and British Sea Power? I'm busting!

I tried to get into British Sea Power and it just wasn't happening for me. Maybe I just had to "be there." I never got deep into Bloc Party either.

Bloc Party are awful. BSP do anthemic rock right.

What about Elbow, CH? They write fantastic songs.

Hey it's cool to see a new pornographer fan on here. They're one of my favorite bands (especially if you generously including ac's solo work), but I strongly disagree about Bejar. He is the John Lennon of the band. It seems like keeps Paul (A.C.) from getting too corny. Imo, Challengers kinda sucked and I never much got into the next album either, but Brill Bruisers was a return to the rockin' earlier 2000s.

I think Bejar's contributions to NP albums including Brill Bruisers has been a strong positive. He has sung on many top tracks from 'Testament to a youth in verse', 'Jackie', and (my favorite) 'The ballad of the comeback kid' 'to the newer songs 'War on the east coast' and 'born with a sound'. The latter songs may be a tiny bit weaker than the first few albums but I think AC has fallen off a little too.

Regardless, I still love them and am probably going to the show next week if my friend ever gets the tickets.

Mr Styles,
Thats the night I'm shooting for since Friday is sold out.

As mentioned, I love NP and some other favorite "indie" albums and songs (that come to mind right now) are:

Tegan and Sara songs "The Con" and "walking with a ghost"
Interpol debut...much of it
Morrissey bona drag and your arsenal
New florence and the machine album
Yeah yeah yeahs songs "maps", "gold lion"
Belle and sebastian album "push barman to open new wounds"

So, you might agree I pretty much have pop but not too much pop sensibilities. Do you have some bands or albums you'd recommend I check out?

Thanks...

Chuck, where the hell you been?

Also, Mr. Styles is his nickname for his tiny manhood. You can call him furious.

Hey, I went back to lurking because it fits more naturally with my degenerate nature. But also too much politics on here. I occasionally looked at the sports, movie, music, and dicaro sections but cant stand the gen discussion and dbag/s.o. parts.

Sorry about your loss in the tournament. I got to get up to 200 (?) so I can make a difference in 2018!

Thank you Mr Kids

Don't be a stranger. The politics is dying down now that baseball is back.

I did notice that. I got into sports talk because I hate mainstream politics (and I'm too southside for npr). But then bernstein had to ruin it. I think thats how i found this place on google after one of his asshole soap box moments.

But anyway, thanks!

I've had the same thought. The Con by Tegan and Sara would be in my top 10 too. I may have missed out on a lot of good songs, though.

Overall, I sadly say 00s > 10s. Agree?

I want those indie rock recommendations now. I know where to find you!

No really, I'm bored as shit here. Sick of tv and tired of my music. I'd actually appreciate a reply from anyone who gets my taste (like Curious Hair).

That's tough to say because we're not through it yet and can't give stuff the proper perspective, but I know the 2000s were a great decade for alternative/indie music.

I honestly dont enjoy any other music styles out other than indie. Pop music is very very bad overall. For my interests and from what I've heard, '00s indie > '10s indie so far relative to output.

Good point on needing some distance to give the music and decade a proper perspective. I do think I can sort of quantify how many songs and albums I got excited about. How many hit me hard on that 3rd or 4th listen.

Right off the top of my head, some instant-classic 2010s albums would be Transcendental Youth, The Whole Love, Ryan Adams, and A Moon Shaped Pool.

I'm sorta disappointed?

I like the first four tracks, and Colosseums....but after that? I'm just not sure.

if you like new pornographers, give the naked and famous a try. their latest album, "simple forms", is their best and most consistent effort.

That's interesting, because my favorite Bejar song, "Kaputt," is pure '80s corn to me.
