No American loves The Clash as much as they say they do....

In Rainbows coming up next, cool. I'm not sure whether it defeats the purpose or is the purpose of this stunt to play albums from 2007, but at least it's Radiohead on the radio. I was hoping for Kid A, though.

Why don't they make it a weekly feature to play an album or two all the way through, and not necessarily on vinyl, which sounds kinda crappy? Or just play album cuts in the first place?

EDIT: this vinyl makes "Faust Arp" sound like shit, god only knows what it'll do to "Reckoner"

I applaud XRT for their mix of songs. They have good taste in music.

This morning they played the Cure and "London Calling" from the Clash.

Later, they played "The Loner" by Neil Young, a true classic. All hail Neil Young!

Has Chicago traffic gotten worse or do they just no longer allow Mary to give traffic reports that consist of "traffic's fine"?

Exile on Main Street on way to gym, Automatic For The People on the way home...why can't they play all these songs, all the time.

Yeah, we're at a pretty low point in new alternative music, lower than it's been in the last six years, I'd say. Now's a real good time to slide into more library, less rotation.

ACDC bitches. Got another hour of new year rocking. Dispense with iPod shit for 45 minutes. Never know what's gonna hit around the dial.

Nice My Sharona follow up. Solid playlist for the last 60 minutes. I expect a Good. 30 more.

The Friday Feature is Talking Heads and the Pretenders, the most obvious "but that's every day" yet.

Haven't been able to listen to afternoon drive much since Richard Milne took over. For me it has been outstanding. He is following something close to The CH playlist mixing old new and host favorites. It's been a hoot. I highly recommend tuning in.

Yeah, he's doing well. He plays Yes a lot! I thought Yes was banned there, like Rush. And yeah, the "XRT classic" songs seem to get more play: "In a Daydream," "Three Strange Days," "Drive Somewhere," "Trail of Tears," etc.

I'm surprised that Jason Thomas hasn't told the station to go screw yet. Maybe he's looking to.

Not the standard listener it is on 8:30 am till about 9:00 pm, but since Don Jimmy has
taken over station has been a really good listen. Like Milne always have very solid.

What's the one that goes like "pork chop! dun-dun-dunga-dunga-dung-dung handjob! dun-dun-dunga-dunga-dung-dung rib tips! dun-dun-dunga-dunga-dung-dung"? that's a low-key Worst Song Of All Time nominee

Yes and Bob Seger are ok in smaller doses. They are currently overplayed. Work in some other classic acts of the time if they are looking to keep a WDRV crowd interest. Also agreed on Red Hot Chili Peppers, and I'd toss in Foo Fighters as overplayed (Tom Petty too, but I still like him so I'll give this a pass...).

It's all somewhat subjective as my clunkers may not be someone else's. But bottom line is as a whole the song mix covers 6 decades. The dj's are stringing together excellent 'mix tapes' for all you old timers. A guy like Reader can listen with his kid and both get something out of it. To my reckoning listening hasn't been this good for MANY years.

And there was a Pearl Jam song in there, which I thought would forestall it at least another 20 minutes.

2 programming notes:

1. Led Zeppelin is your artiste of the day this Friday. Now do everything you can to avoid the promos the big voice guy is dropping to promote said event. Friday, however, should be a good radio day.
2. Vinyl side Saturday begins at noon. Hopeful they don't replay the same vinyl sides covered in the last 6 months when they do this.

SHARK out.

I'm hearing too much of their big voice guy in general. Now they have him introing new releases. You have jocks for that.

XRT's Friday Feature this week is all of the artists playing their Holiday Jam concerts at The Vic this year:

- X-Ambassadors
- The Lumineers
- Alice Merton
- The Strumbellos
- Mondo Cozmo
- Joseph*

(* I have never heard any original music by Joseph, but thet do a haunting cover of the already-haunting "Moonlight Mile," so they enjoy the distinction of Least Execrable.)

That is a murderer's row of bad heavy-rotation XRT artists. Did Milky Dance and lovelytheband have prior engagements?
