The only time Black Keys have ever ascended above okay-at-best was that one long cut on their album from a few years ago. "Fever," "Howlin' for You," and "Gold on the Ceiling" are PTFBs.

And now Auerbach has a hit with that Hank DeVito rewrite.

It's not too bad, but they could shave about 30 seconds off the end.

What was bad was that period where it seemed like everything was being produced by Dan Auerbach, including MY FAVORITE, Cage the Elephant.

Is that Wendy Rice??? What's in the water over there? Does it turn everyone into Terri Hemmert?

 It just makes everyone stammer on the air like Norm Winer.

Now they're running liners calling themselves "the station for serious music lovers" in hushed tones. Sounds just like the Drive circa 2003, no surprise.

This liner just preceded another turgid sludgy Kings of Leon single. They'll get there eventually.

https://archive.org/details/19970801To0 ... nniversary

Charlie Meyerson uploaded an eight-hour (!!) aircheck of a 25th anniversary show from 20 years ago. It's mostly Terri, Norm, and Skafish talking to people but there's some music (I guess they were overplaying Roxy Music's Avalon in '97 too) and spots and promos (somehow Wendy Rice sounded like a high schooler well into the late '90s). I just sorta poked around here and there but in doing so I did land on "Drugland Weekend," hell yes.

Also, RIP to the "Chicago's Finest Rock" positioner.

Local Anesthetic got cancelled without it being called cancelled. Bummer, found a lot of good songs on there.

Hmm. Bottom right of this link http://wxrt.cbslocal.com/ says 10:30 - 11:00 PM on Sunday. Problem is when you click on the link itself http://wxrt.cbslocal.com/show/local-anesthetic/, it says 7:30 PM Sundays. It’s XRT’s weekly shot of Chicago music hosted by Richard Milne, primarily focusing on new music and artists but also showcasing Chicago greats of the last 50 years. I always remembered it being just New.

I used to listen all of the time, and occasionally found something I liked. Last year I found myself listening more. Richard Milne was conducting more interviews. They just weren't that good. Before they were short and a little interesting. He seemed to be interjecting himself and thoughts more into them or something. Maybe there was some heat and he was trying harder.

I have heard Richard on the Saturday morning flashback every once in a while and it is quite enjoyable. Having a rotating group really is a nice change of pace....different dj's probably with slightly different interests, ergo playlists.

They moved it to 10:30. CBS Radio has never been the best about maintaining websites. I think it's convenient that the show got buried a couple months ago and now it's too much work.

I've found a lot of really cool stuff via Local Anesthetic over the years but I'll admit to not listening as much over the last year or so as I used to (though I did catch the Material Issue tribute last summer). Like you said, the interview shows can be a little rough. I'm glad Richard is keeping the regular Sunday afternoon show and Flashback -- before Solk opened the library back up and the station was really at its worst, he was the only person (other than Lin) who was getting away with playing stuff you wouldn't usually hear.

This was one of my favorite discoveries. Very Joy Division.

Bump. Vinyl Saturday again. Strongly recommend catching after WCUB tonight if you like older obscure tune options.

My first reaction to this thread, which I quelled, was to come up with XRT-ified Sabbath songs/artists:

Matthew Sweet Leaf
Iron Mumford
Children of the Shakey Graves
Die (Neil) Young

 at TS. Backdoor Man by The Doors is better on vinyl. Nasty's that tune up just right. Yes DT, poor use of the language.

My Aim Is True is one of those albums where you have to let it play right through because it's just one three-minute burst of brilliance after another. Fever to Tell and More Songs About Buildings and Food are like that too.

Left, came back, they're tracking Stop Making Sense. Hell yeah bitch. I know it's kind of a running gag with Talking Heads but the first five studio albums + Stop Making Sense + The Name of This Band... are all perfect to me and should be played as much as possible. The stuff after that, though... :?

I love Loveless but not enough to buy a hard copy on an antiquated medium.

Unforgettable Fire side 1. Nice. Late 80's this was the side I listened to before running La Luz Trail. Music is awesome for memory recall.

Post subject:  Re: Sabbath on WXRT

The Unforgettable Fire is one of my favorite U2 albums and it's very cool that a commercial radio station is playing half of it straight through (XRT never plays "Wire" and I don't know why), but talk about an album that gives the lie to Everything Sounds Better On Vinyl. The intro to the title track demands clarity.

This particular Vinyl copy has seen better days. I had a cassette, so all the parts are still better than my option.

Muddy Waters, now that's meant to be played off vinyl.

In a manly sense, is it wrong I envision RR hearing that? I have seen here he manned up occasionally. RR has my rooting interest whether he likes it or not.

That sounds bad in mono or stereo.

Hell yes Running Up That Hill. I wish I grew up in the '80s so I could beat off to Kate Bush. I mean, I still could now, but it wouldn't be the same.

Liked and laughed at Ryan calling old man for suggestions on how to stop the popping... Put a quarter on the top of needle.

New band ( for xrt) ive heard a couple times this week..called Greta van fleet, strong zep vibe, singer sounds damn near identical to Plant. Heard 2 songs so far, both were good.

Post subject:  Re: Sabbath on WXRT

Yeah, I've heard them too. They're a little too derivative -- I thought it was new Plant at first -- but they sound pretty good. Given most of the milquetoast singer-songwriter garbage that makes rotation on XRT, I'll take it.

I listened to Flashback this morning because it was '86 so I had to. I don't like the fourth hour getting cut (it doesn't even make sense from a scheduling standpoint: whichever jock is on Flashback duty wraps up the show, then does one hour of format, then leaves) but I like that the terrible clock the show was on is gone. Two songs between stop sets, I cannot do.

Holy shit. Low spark of high heeled boys. Traffic long form, all 11:43 of it.

Great hour before Blues Breakers. Not sure how they did that in today's radio world. Do it again. That was great.
