I've never listened to his music, but apparently he has a lot of women from his past who hate him.

I heard a song I thought was kind of cool on Sirius yesterday by a group called Oblivion Community Center which is Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridgers, and, like the proverbial "Plate O' Shrimp", it turns out Bridgers, who I hadn't heard of previously, was one of the Adams women.

Here's a song that is obviously about Adams:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sfYpolGCu8

Phoebe is pretty cute too. I can see why Adams was all about that.

Yet within 10 minutes, the conversation again turned explicit. “I just want you to touch your nipple,” he texted, before again asking about her age. “And tell me that your mom is not gonna kill me if she finds out we even text.”

In response to Adams’s repeated pleas that she tell him she was 18 — “You have to convince me,” he wrote — Ava at times said she was. Sometimes he asked to see identification — “in the hottest way that has ever been done Lol.” She never showed him any ID.

This is how 16-year-old boys in the early 2000s talked, what the fuck.

I was never a Ryan Adams superfan, but the s/t and Prisoner immediately became heavy-rotation summer albums for me. I'm not ready to unperson him over this because we have to separate the artist from the art and all that (and who would that leave us with, the Osmonds?). Besides, the book was out on him for years, albeit minus some of the sordid details above. What a creep.

I guess the silver lining of this story has been discovering Phoebe Bridgers. Wow, she's good.

I knew this guy was a dickhead when he would overreact to people making the Bryan Adams/Ryan Adams joke.

He couldnt carry Bryan Adams' six string.

Well, let's not do the "he was never good anyway" deal. How convenient that every scumbag was never talented.

He eventually got over that. I think he would even play "Summer of '69" once in awhile.

"Crash on the Barrelhead" by the Old 97s is about Ryan Adams, hm, didn't know that. Makes sense.

I never liked him, I was just making a joke about how touchy he was about the name.

I think he's a great songwriter. He just releases way too much stuff. Every record has a lot of filler.

Fucking with the ambitions of a 15-year-old musician kind of goes beyond the normal groupie fare, though, doesn't it?

There's a guy on this board who did a fuck of a lot less than that and catches a lot of heat about it.

That's right. In the summer of '69 at the age of 9 Bryan Adams started his band and worked at the drive-in where he fell in love with an older woman. And where was Ryan Adams??? He wouldn't be born for another 5 years.

The early PE beats are so good, I wish I was born a few years earlier and was into rap by then.

I started listening to PE in 1988 with It Takes A Nation of Millions and the 1990 Fear Of A Black Planet is still one of my all time favorites. Between
them, NWA, and solo Ice Cube I still have a hard time listening to any other rap or hip hop after the early 90s when I migrated to grunge.

Insisting on naming an objective "best" musician is a pretty male thing to do, Amanda. How about appreciating everyone's different talents.

Yes, she is. If you haven't already, check out boygenius. It's her, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus.
And also check out those 2 girls' solo records as well.
