I thought Sequencer Dad retired and devoted the rest of his life to ruining the Arcade Fire.

Not a fan of reflektor?

The title track is OK, but the rest of Reflektor marks the moment where indie rock not just died, but proved it was never coming back.

Half of reflektor is not very good but the title track, Joan of arc, normal person, we exist, and it's never over are good tracks imo. It's easily their worst album though

Bibgo. Each Arcade Fire album is worse than the last, of course, but most of Reflektor is aggressively bad and certainly does feel like the end of something.

I'm not an authority on LCD Soundsystem, but I really liked both the new songs.
They're on SNL tonight, should be interesting.

Each arcade fire album isn't worst than the last, since neon bible is their best album, imo.

Funeral is clearly the best. I love Neon Bible, I like the Suburbs...but Funeral is really their only all time great.

Funeral is close second for me, I like the overall mood of neon bible over funeral.

I think we can agree their first two albums are classic or near classic

Funeral: an all-time classic
Neon Bible: really really good
The Suburbs: has a bunch of good songs but the cracks are showing
Reflektor: uh oh

Reflektor is their king of limbs, very self indulgent

Funeral is overrated.
So is OK Computer.
There, I said it.

Scalding hot take

If we're talking Radiohead I prefer the bends and hail to the thief

I'd say less self-indulgent and more failed experiment -- Radiohead really wanted to go all in on creating loop-based music as their latest reinvention but no one had the heart to tell them that's called GarageBand and mediocre 19-year-olds with Macbooks beat them to the punch. Either way, at least The King of Limbs had the decency to be brief. Reflektor goes on and on fucking forever with boring disco beats and lyrics about The Kids.

I don't know how anyone can call OK Computer overrated anymore. 10 years ago? Maybe, I think that was when there was still hope for rock music. But now everything is so dreadful you have to appreciate one of the last truly great rock records.

The fact that there is an 8 minute snoozer named "It's Never Over" that unironically comes to it's merciful end with the lyric "it's over too soon" encapsulates everything that went wrong with Reflektor.

I'm really excited for the reissue so we can finally have a studio version of "Lift."

I wasn't trying to be contrary or hot take-ing about Funeral or OK Computer.
In fact, I have all the RAdiohead and Arcade Fire records either on cd or flac files, I just don't really
ever go out of my way to listen to those particular records from start to finish.
I've seen Radiohead at Alpine Valley on the HTTT tour, and it was amazing, and I've seen a bunch of AF festival livecasts
and they're a good live band. I like both bands enough, I just like some of their other records better than their so-called magnum opuses.

I had never heard of this group until you all mentioned them and now that I have heard them on snl I would prefer to never hear them again.

Are you talking about LCD Soundsystem? Sound of Silver is still really good, I just got burned out with the fake retirement tour for a guy who hadn't even been at the top of his game that long. Oh, and ruining the Arcade Fire.

The Bends hasn't aged that well. Outside of "Planet Telex," "Fake Plastic Trees," "Street Spirit," and "Bulletproof," it's starting to feel a little generic. I'd probably rank it behind Hail to the Thief, In Rainbows, and A Moon Shaped Pool at this point. I hated In Rainbows when it came out but "Nude" through "Reckoner' is near perfect.

I wasn't a huge fan of in rainbows when it released either and it's definitely gotten better with age.

"Just" is pretty good off the bends too

Post subject:  Re: New LCD Soundsystem

Part of the disappointment was from being familiar with previous versions of "Nude," "Arpeggi," and "Videotape." When the first version of "Arpeggi" came out that was just Thom, Jonny, and an orchestra, I fell in love with that and couldn't get past the drumming and guitars on the new version. Opposite with "Videotape," where I was used to the full-band version with the big buildup and wound up with the solo piano + *kchnk* sound. But as I've accepted the final versions on their own merits, I like the album a whole lot more. "House of Cards" still blows, though.
