rock is just fine. Some people just don't like that people have other options. The young kids love classic rock. They just like a shit ton other stuff. A music scene isn't as identifying as it once was.

As long as people pay the money, these guys are going to go on tour. For most of them, it is all they know that life should be like. I'm sure a few have settled down with the grandkids, MANY of them must thrive off the thrill of performing in front of the live audience and have them hanging on every note/lyric.

I think it is somewhat unfortunate the way modern music is going -- there's no emphasis on albums anymore, just singles. So you get a band that someone writes a single for, they hit the top three to five for a couple of months, they go on an ensemble summer/Christmas tour, hope to have someone else write them another hit single in nine months, rinse, repeat. Let It Bleed, Quadrophenia, Low Spark of High Heeled Boys, Wish You Were Here -- you don't get that anymore. Taytay's 1989 (a bit poppy) -- Green Day American Idiot? Kanye College Dropout? They just aren't what they used to be. I guess that is why I like the classic old rockers -- they have more than 10 songs that I liked/were popular/I know.

Grace Slick was the one that sat in front of a camera and declared "Old people on a rock and roll stage is pathetic". She did the final tour in 1990 and pretty much stayed true to that. I respectfully disagree..it's true for some, but there are plenty of Sr. Citizens that still bring it.

Ozzy and Kiss are the ones that I wish would just go away. They're awful and the ones that are clearly just milking the system.

Iron Maiden - The Book Of Souls was underwhelming, but prior albums like A Matter Of Life and Death...very good.
Metallica - Last 2 albums very good. Outside of their very lazy drummer....still bringing it.
U2 - Hard to say, as I haven't liked much of their stuff since Achtung, but I do regret missing their show this year.
Sammy Hagar - 70 yrs old and still bad-ass.

Plenty of old rockers still doing quality work.

Hagar can not sing any longer out of the magic studio. Same for Roth.

+1 . Never got into them. but it's not their fault they became corporate America's band, or is it?

They are the banner carriers for the meretricious politics of neoliberal humanitarian interventionism, the musical equivalent of the NGO. If the Clinton Foundation made a documentary about itself, U2 would be featured on the soundtrack.

Phenomenal.

Death Magnetic was okay. Hardwired sucked. No one would care about either album if it didn't have the Metallica stamp on it.

Stick to other genres because you don't know shit about metal.

I'm not a U2 fan but if you don't get why their music is held in such high regard then you're a moron who knows nothing about music. Their 80's stuff can't be compared to. The Edge had a sound that was so cool. Very underrated guitarist.

Do you like Robert Fripp? Big influence on The Edge by way of Brian Eno.

We should have a King Crimson thread if we haven't had one already.

you could say the same thing about nearly every band who has had a 30 year career.

the last few albums are typically b/c of the brand.

Yeah I probably saw more bad metal than I should have. Also a lot of other bands as they started as openers for the ones I wanted to see. I don't think any band can have a thirty year career without a lull. Maybe the ones that put out a record every six years?

As we speak one can see Kansas, 38 Special and Survivor for $10 at Taste of Joliet. Kansas is the headliner, interestingly.
