I was thinking more about this and realized if there's to be a cutoff point in 2007 for the glory days of that decade it would have to be 10/10/07 when everyone downloaded In Rainbows together. That was as close to a shared cultural experience as anyone had.

Actually I think you had it pegged with the release of that Black Kids album. Consequences were never the same after its release.

As for his critical evaluation of the band, while the article mostly allows him to turn that dispassionate eye to the larger issue of blog-hype, he still arrives at the conclusion that Black Kids are “a pretty good band with more than its share of blogger-friendly hooks” and “unpolished but immediately likable.” Which is faint, somewhat incoherent praise–what the hell are “blogger-friendly hooks”?–but praise nonetheless.
