"The Fox" is a powerhouse opener.

"Good Times, Bad Times." From that album alone, you have "Your Time Is Gonna Come," "Dazed and Confused," "Black Mountain Side," "Communication Breakdown," and "How Many More Times." As far as Zeppelin openers go, it's not close to "Immigrant Song," "The Song Remains The Same," or "Achilles Last Stand."

You guys are thinking too preciously. Hearing GTBT for the first time on one's Hi-Fi was a sonically explosive moment that literally changed the world for MANY 15 year old boys at the near-zenith of when music mattered.

"Communication Breakdown" is the closest Zeppelin got to punk rock. It's a good one, but I won't stand for trashing "Immigrant Song" or "Achilles Last Stand." I mean, if you think about it, every Led Zeppelin song borders on self-parody! Isn't that the charm of it all?

 You may have a point. But I mean, "Achilles Last Stand" is bombastic even for Zeppelin, and that's saying a lot. I never liked "Immigrant Song". I would have had "Out On The Tiles" as Track 1 on that one.

I'm pretty sure Page ripped the "Communication Breakdown" lick from this one:

Come to think of it, it's pretty close to the opening of "Anarchy In The U.K too, isn't it?

"Out on the Tiles" or "Since I've Been Loving You" would both be great openers to that album.

Ooh, yes, both excellent calls.

I'm just going deep on Zeppelin because of this thread. I forgot how much I love "No Quarter" but I'm sure we have to shit on that next.

Don't get upset because I'm giving you my feelings on Zep songs. They were without a doubt my favorite band all the way through high school. There are still plenty of them that I'll crank, mostly off the first one, Presence or Grafitti. "No Quarter" is interesting and the part where he goes to those heavy chords is awesome, but the effect on Plant's voice is weird. If I have a singer like that, I don't need to process his voice.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come off so bitchy.

That's a fair point about the processing on his voice.

EDIT: did anyone mention "Debaser" yet?

Yes, there is better music, even better songs on that album, but you asked for one favorite Track 1. That song, that time of my life, that's it.
