this was one of my favorite of the shorter threads...for the info, the window into others' worlds, and the zeppelin discussion.

Big Man With A Gun - NIN - Downward Spiral.

some of the best damn lyrics ever!

I am a big man
(Yes I am)
And I have a big gun
Got me a big old dick and I
I like to have fun
Held against your forehead
I'll make you suck it
Maybe I'll put a hole in your head
You know just for the fuck of it
I can reduce you if I want
I can devour
I'm hard as fucking steel and I've got the power
I'm every inch a man and I'll show you somehow
Me and my fucking gun
I never can stop me now
Shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot
I'm going to come all over you
Shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot
I'm going to come all over you
Shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot
I'm going to come all over you
Shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot
I'm going to come all over you
Me and my fucking gun
Me and my fucking gun
Me and my fucking gun
Me and my fucking gun
Me and my fucking gun
Me and my fucking gun
Me and my fucking gun
Me and my fucking gun

they weren't the first, but specifically "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" benefits from a sped up mix, as Lennon hits notes he'd never hit in real life.

There isn't a better version of Since I've Been Loving You out there besides the one that's on Song Remains the Same. Unfortunately, that collection of the three nights of concerts is pretty highly overdubbed, so it's tough to know what's real.

The NYC '73 shows have circulated as bootlegs. You can hear all three shows from a box-set called "the Garden Tapes" from Empress Valley label. It goes for hundreds of dollars, though can be found on the web to download. But, yes, the Song Remain the Same songs were dubbed to a degree.

While that is an excellent version of Since I've Been Loving You for sure, I think Page was at his best in the song from a show in Offenburg '73. There's a very good audience recording of it. Otherwise, the version from the Sept. LA '70 concert is great too. Plant still had the high registering vocals to scream at the end. This is the legendary On Blueberry Hill show, because Blueberry Hill was played in a medley during Whole Lotta Love.

'Since I've Been Loving You' on Celebration Day is better than TSRTS version.

I celebrate their entire catalog, and have seen them several times.
I'd say they were pretty great.

Really, the best band in this category is Black Sabbath.

Black Sabbath from 1st album
War Pigs from Paranoid
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath from SBS

They're all killer first songs from side one.

Can't believe I forgot War Pigs.
In an old pruned thread from a long time ago, I said that would be my walk up song if I were a MLB closer.

Flaming Lips /Wayne Coyne covered War Pigs as a regular thing in their set for a minute. They'd typically break it out when they were playing on a bill with a chick singer.
Only female singer I saw do it clean, without the help of a lyric cheat sheet. Not Cat Power/Chan Marshall. Not Corin from Sleater-Kinney, who held the War Pigs lyrics in her hand and read/sang them on stage at MSG one NYE.

'Fuck the Pain Away' Peaches didn't need the help of any cheat sheet; like she'd been waiting for this moment since since singing along to Sabbath in her bedroom as a kid:

Peaches sang War Pigs a number of times with the Flips; including at ATP Long Beach one year (where I saw her w/Flips and was an impromptu thing, first time they did it.).
