What are the best songs/themes from sports programs? Can be either an actual sporting event or a sports TV program?

My all time favorite is the NBC Ryder Cup theme composed by the great Yanni. It captures the battle and rivalry between Europe and the US so well.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOiOb2uGe4E

My second favorite was the theme International Statement from NFL Primetime. Back before Chris Berman was a total blowhard, I loved watching him recap games with this theme in the background. They always saved the big high-scoring or overtime games for this theme.

plus 5 bazillion. Not even close. I'd say second is CBS's road to the final four music.

Yup

Best current theme is Sunday Night Football on NBC for me. It's just so...footballey.

Yea, its not bad.

The worst is Fox's injury music. It's the opposite of football-ey. Its a song for people who think Coldplay is too hard.

Just play Taps like it's a cartoon.

Yeah, this is a great theme. I haven't watched any NBA in forever that I kind of forgot about it.

Fox has always had the worst themes.

that's awesome that you a) recognize yanni's greatness, and b) recognize primetime's music greatness. that one is a fantastic tune but this has always been my favorite:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxZod6_sxPY

also, the 1992 CBS NFL theme. just really set the tone perfectly...

I think Levine or Rozner play the TWIB theme consistently on one of those weekend baseball shows?

There are two TWIB themes: "Jet Set" is the opener and "Gathering Crowds" is the closer. I like both, but the closer is much better. It has the right mix of light and serious without being too much of either. Plus, there's some cool counterpoint stuff going on.

The old Wimbledon on NBC theme sounds like pure early-'80s NBC from when the whole network was knee-deep in the shit, so that makes it kind of a fun little relic.

2 great themes that remind me of my yoot.

#2 is the NBC Olympic "coming up next" theme by Randy Edelman, which was originally the theme to The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lCVq4iYRhk

But the NBA on NBC theme segueing into Marv Albert welcoming you to the Silverdome or Madison Square Garden... that is #1.

I loved the Wimbledon Theme for NBC. Was so bummed when coverage went over to ESPN.
