I dig some Jethro Tull but King Crimson is the far more accomplished band. I especially like the Discipline/Beat/Three of a Perfect Pair trilogy with Adrian Belew and Tony Levin. Chapman stick!!

Dave Matthews Band was one of the first "serious" bands I remember liking. Consider the top 40 landscape at the time and it's more defensible. What's not defensible is the lyric "hike up your skirt a little more and show your world to me," which is firmly entrenched in the top of the Worst Lyrics Ever list.
