There was s time I liked Joel. There was also a time I wanted to murder my brother for playing so damn much of him every morning before school.

Joel's career was hot at the start, then pretty much cooled off. Right when he married Cristy Brinkley.

Uptown Girl is a fun song. I'll pick that one as his best.

My brother played Billy Joel all the time....once I had the stomach flu and had to listen to "bottle of red, bottle of white" skip on his record player for what seemed to be days.

"Uptown Girl" is "Hungry Heart" with a lobotomy.

Only The Good Die Young is obviously the only acceptable answer. This one shouldn’t even be a thread.

The line 'Catholic Girls start much to late' really turns me off. Ruins the whole song for me.

Isn't it nice to have a discussion about music rather than politics?

My brother had the habit of over listening to music. Very regimented in his routine. For someone as scattered as me it was pretty damn aggravating.

This cancels out your previous correctness on "L.A. Woman."

Catholic girls start much too late? Since when?

Frank Zappa made the opposite argument!

The fact that Piano Man hasn't been mentioned yet makes me feel uncomfortable.

Yeah, that really wasn't my experience. I think Billy was trafficking in the same stereotypes as Caller Bob:

Caller Bob wrote:
Jewish women are whores.

Anyway, I like "Only The Good Die Young", "Easy Money", and "Keeping The Faith". I think "Allentown" is a great meditation on the decline of the American Dream. But I have to go with "New York State of Mind" as his best song.

"rosalinda's eyes" and "downeaster alexa". "piano man" has lost all meaning to me by now but i know if i heard it again for the first time, it'd be a great song.

Pretty solid list here. I have his 4 disc Complete Hits set but I haven't dusted it off in years. Used to listen to him a lot, maybe I
will check it out later today. Kind of stuck in front of the computer all day.

Piano Man is a great song. The fact that it’s horribly overplayed doesn’t take away its awesomeness. WZ summed it up nicely.

I pulled the the albums to help jog my memory so I didn't miss anything. This isn't in order outside of that. Anything off Cold Spring Harbor, The Stranger, 52nd Street and Glass Houses is top notch.
