I still like November Rain and everything, I'm just sayin'.
I don't think I ever liked "Don't Cry" though...

Good thoughts here.

My "Use Your Illusion" as one album under 76 min?
Civil War
Coma
Dead Horse
Double Talkin' Jive
Dust N' Bones
Estranged
Garden Of Eden
Get In the Ring
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
Live and Let Die
Locomotive
November Rain
Right Next Door To Hell
The Garden
Yesterdays
You Could Be Mine

Love or hate Slash's fills and solos in his entire oeuvre. I can hardly make a case for any fill or lead besides this moment.

I say.......as a player.

A Gibson has never sounded better. Than whatever he found on that day to bless those tracks with.

Melodic. Taut. Expansive.

Not unlike Robbie or Jimi or say even Antonio Jobim on their best days. Slash SERVED that song properly.

Not with mastubatory pyrotechnichs. Just.....ascension. And respect.

I think Slash is a great melodic hard rock player. He’s nowhere near the Les Paul Mt Rushmore though.

I dont think that is what Frankie was saying...

But Mt Rushmore discussions with such things are extremely subjective.

Slash at the very least should be in the team photo/discussion.

Nah. Not in the Gibson pantheon. Not Jimmy Page or even Pete who KNEW how to talk back and forth to his Gibson when needed, or badass fuckin Billy Gibbons on the entire Tres Hombres or Fandango live album just killing that LP tone. Or Duane kissing each fret like a lover in any Allmans early joint.

Im saying....Just that particular lead. He IMHO caught how that guitar sounds at its sweetest.

Allow me to make an argument. Frampton Comes Alive. A very nice artifact of a place and a time. Nothing mind blowing musically. But the tone that he got, love it or hate it again....was how that axe was supposed to be heard. As opposed to a Fender Telecaster, (my particular fave for ease of neck glide and Stones Aerosmith 70s riffage.)

I think the proper thread for my reply should have been Gibson tone lovers forum.

Per this thread.....Just that Slash on that day......Had the right tool in his hand to express.......like sheets of rain...........his melodious tale.

Got you now. I would add as an underrated Les Paul magicians Tom Sholz and Gary Richrath.

November rain doesn't even crack a top 10 GnR hit list.

Gary Richrath era REO is their best period, easily. It's too bad Gary got the boot from his own band. Great guitarist.

Mr. Rushmore of Les Paul players....can we just go ahead and leave Les off the mountain as that's a given?

Interesting list:
Slash
Tom Scholz
Ace Frehley
Peter Frampton
Duane Allman
Jimmy Page
Neil Schon
Randy Rhoads
Joe Perry
Zakk Wylde
Peter Green
Gary Moore

It's impossible to pick only 4.

Little know is Eddie VH used Les Paul pickups inserted into Strat body for his first famous Frankie.

...which was actually NOT the primary guitar used to record VH1. VH1 was an original lawsuit Ibanez Destroyer which he later ruined by cutting it up to make the "Shark" guitar pictured on Women and Children First.

Seems we have to have a VH beer session.
