Nice. The Netflix has a special on JB right now. Good stuff and mentions this show. Mick Jagger was in the audience and competing as part of the show. A few funny snippets.

What was unfortunate is watching that show, then comparing it with my recollection of a three part essay Goldenjet(?) posted about the later stages of JB's life. Dude chose, or was led down, a pretty ugly path.

No particular order and I'm sure there are others that are better....just some that stand out for me...

1. Van Halen (Hagar 5150 tour) did a simulcast on MTV where Hagar spray painted some girls shoes on stage…in the middle of “Best Of Both Worlds” they teased “Addicted To Love”. Yes…the Dave years were better…let’s not get SomeGuy all triggered….still….this was pretty damn cool
2. Prince - 2002.10.26 - ONE NITE ALONE TOUR AFTERSHOW,CLUB VEGA, COPENHAGEN
3. Grateful Dead – 3/28/81 GrugaHalle Germany. I’m sure most DeadHeads will say there’s better. I’ve heard A LOT of dead shows and this one is my personal fav
4. Phish – 6/17/94 Milwaukee, WI….THIS one I was and still the best concert I’ve ever seen.
5. I always thought John Lennon showing up to play with Elton John in 1974 for 3 songs was a great moment.
6. Linkin Park and Jay-Z mash-up songs. I like both a little, but neither really my thing. I thought the combo worked really well.

Yeah Sammy was a showman for sure but in a completely different way the Dave. The two live releases they put out with him were great. The 5150 one you mentioned had a video not sure of the FUCK one. Anyway I saw Sammy solo prior to VH and he was always like that. The shame in my long story is they never put out an old properly produced Dave era video. There are the famous boots and other stuff (US festival, Oakland) around but to me it isn't the same as a real product.

They were both amazing front men in different ways. Both were very good eras for Van Halen. There was definitely a unique magic with Dave, but no one can tell me if they had a band and were given a chance to have Sammy front the band, they wouldn't jump at it. Great singer, great performer. Wrote some great songs in and out of VH.

I have always thought Hagar was better, and I know that is considered a terrible opinion by many. But I liked the Hagar VH era better. Hagar is clearly the better singer, and a pretty good performer as well.

To me, Van Hagar had better front to back abums. Roth era had the bets hits, but some of the album filler was garbage.

The ballads/anthems started with Sammy Hagar (unless you count "I'll Wait" or something like that.) The keyboard fetish ruined the band already on 1984. The ballads are absolutely unforgivable.

Some people have mentioned Pink Floyd and I agree. But it's not Echoes at the Pompei or anything off the Wall. It's Brain Damage/Eclipse live at Earl's Court in '94. I love the tone of Gilmour's guitar. The song is perfection.

Ritchie Blackmore has to be a top 5 guitarist of all time. Cozy Powell was one heck of a drummer in his day. Even their bassist was super strong. Dio is in a category of his own for rock vocalists.

Dio was pretty great in his odd trollish way but "Greensleeves" is too British and gay.

Little Feat at the Lisner Auditorium in '92, basically recreating "Waiting For Columbus", which was recorded originally at the Lisner in the 70's. One of the all time great live recordings.
