Would “I Want to Know What Love Is” count?

Also, Every Rose Has it’s Thorn is the correct answer to the best, which is amazing because I think Poison is terrible.

I think the crux of it is that in some way, we all love terrible music. Also, Free Bird is the answer to the second worst song of all time. Hey Jude is worse.

Summer of 1989 a 13 yr old RFDC had his heart broken by a girl. I wore out my cassette of Poison with Every Rose Has its Thorn

According to this commercial, To be With You by Mr Big counts. I dig that song.

It's funny how music puts you in a time and place. I always made my break up songs be more like fuck you, you fucking prick songs. I always knew I could do better or at least show that asshole I could, it didn't matter who I was with. I didn't have many of them, I didn't date much. My most memorable one was Fantasy by George Michael. It was the only time my heart was broken without seeing it coming.

Every Rose has it's Thorn will always be one of my favorites but I never let myself be that sad.

Music can definitely do that. So many songs I connect with certain things from girls to sports teams to parties. Every time I hear Hotel California I am taken back to high school and our baseball trips. The best player on our team loved that song and we listened to it on the bus during every trip. Music definitely makes a connection with you in your soul that never leaves.

When I was in college I remember cranking “I’m Free” by The Who after a breakup. Unfortunately we got back together and I was a bit more heartbroken following the subsequent breakup as evidenced by an attachment to “Separate Ways” by Journey.

They had "Is This Love" also.

Not my thing but I was just guessing who Spaulding might be talking about.

I never had a later serious breakup, I can't imagine putting myself out there for that. Love Lovin Touchin Squeezin by Journey. That's a good breakup song.

Au contraire, that (along with Babe by Styx) were makeout songs when I was in H.S. Not because of the words but more because they were always on the radio.

That and Home Sweet Home are definitely examples of them.

There is obviously a lot of subjectivity to it. I know some who consider Sweet Child O Mine to be a monster ballad. I wouldn't agree.

Right?

I googled rock ballads and stuff like Hey Jude popped up.

Hey Jude, not a ballad.

Does Freebird qualify?

yeah Hey Jude not a ballad. Nor is Freebird.

Warrant had a couple good ones.

REO Speedwagon

REO, Journey and other bands like them dont count. They dont produce the true power ballads that come from the hair band circuit.

One More Try by George Michael caught me at a rough high school moment with a particular girlfriend.

I go straight to that time if I ever hear that song.

It's funny how you just want to hate a song...but it's so damn catchy you kinda love it.

Every Rose and Wanted Dead Or Alive have that quality.

I love him, One More Try is a great song too. Fantasy was just more therapeutic. It was like fuck you, you dick. I'll show you who can do better.

Steelheart's I'll Never Let You Go might be the king of all power ballads. They really crank the cheese factor to warp 10 and its fantastic.
