Two rules

1. You only get to name one song. That’s it. No fence riding bullshit. No “____ is a close second” shit. We all wanna do that

2. It has to be released between 1/1/90-12/31/99

Who ya got?

I got Three Days by Jane’s Addiction

So is this the song we think is truly best? Or songs that are recognized as hits? Don’t say both

So much good music in the 90's- peak alternative/grunge and rap, country mixing pop music in, and the rise of the high note r&b artists.

Pretty much anything in the 90's is better than the top 40 stuff on the charts currently. It's just bad, bad!

that's still 80's.

Releasing sampled hip-hop without having to pay the rights holder had another year to go before the courts put the kibosh on unlicensed sampling in music. Sorta how the 60's (musically) don't really begin til 1964 and then run until '73 (Dark Side of the Moon, debuts from Queen/Aerosmith and then the impact of the oil embargo if ur talking broader than music). According to this line of thinking, the 70's spill over into the 80's, til around 83, with Run DMC's and Madonna's debuts and VH's 1984. Thriller released late '82, didn't blow up right away.

This is the answer. Everything else is fighting for a verrry distant second place.

In reality they were the connection point between Hair bands and grunge.

I can see that. Even more so when I go back and watch their live shows from before they started doing arenas (the Ritz 1988 GnR show that's all over the internet) Tho November Rain reminds me of the way 80's metal bands always had a sappy ballad on their post-break-through albums. Even Motley Crue had 'Home Sweet Home'. Great tune regardless, November Rain

That 88 show at the Ritz is great.

I dont think November Rain is as much as sappy ballad like the 80s stuff. If anything that was Sweet Child O Mine...but Nov Rain was more of Axl's desire to expand their focus into some docu drama type things. I would imagine Axl would absolutely cringe at it being called an 80s sappy ballad  But as you said, great tune no matter.

I'm a low key fan of Doug no longer. This guy knows his stuff.

I'd add "Lithium." To the hipsters on this board hate Nirvana, blow me you fucking d-bags.

Also, "Sure Shot." Funniest video: "Who Am I?" or whatever that Snoop Dogg track is.

Just that kind of night I suppose. I'll usually only throw on a few 90s songs when I'm listening to music but ended up putting a few hours worth on last night

Cracker never had a song as good as "All Her Favorite Fruit," or even as good as "She Divines Water."

Here's an early demo of November Rain from 1986 (Axl had been working on it a long time before its release on Use Your Illusion...in fact, I think it was originally supposed to be on Appetite for Destruction):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iOflIhelV8g

The clarity of his vocals is amazing.
