Fare Thee Well was a one time thing with Trey. Dead and Co has John Mayer instead of Trey. Bobby said Mayer reignited the bands passion for playing live together. The cynical interpretation that pittmike mentioned is the band saw how much of a demand there was for fare thee well and figured they can make a lot more dough if they did a few more tours.
