Stevie Ray Vaughn: I've never been a big blues guy, but he's a lot more than just a good guitar soloist. It's an excellent sound for a three-piece. If he didn't die in the plane crash he would probably have released quite a catalog of music.

Number one on my personal list is The Smiths / Morrissey. In HS I was primarily into metal. I had heard of The Smiths with the only song I had actually encountered being CH "Girlfriend In a Coma".

Years later....someone introduced me to "How Soon Is Now" and a few others and I was kind of blown away and I went digging through the rest of the Smiths and Morrissey catalog. Great stuff...I had no idea and was way late to the party "Your Arsenal" is a fucking masterpiece.

I was watching a youtube video of Post Malone hanging out at a guitar center and playing. He actually seems like a pretty talented musician considering how shitty his mumble rap auto tune pop crap is. Now that he has a ton of money maybe he will actually make some decent music.

I was 15 when Cobain killed himself. I knew Nirvana/Soundgarden/Pearl Jam because they got all the air play. AiC was the band with the weird videos. Mudhoney was a later discovery as I dug deeper into the Seattle scene.

I figured so. I was just getting into college when those bands were either just starting to release out albums (or someone introduced me to their slightly older albums), so it was fun to see them in their full throttle days.

Mudhoney is great. Saw them on the Piece of Cake tour after they were established, but they would have been great to see in a really tiny venue. JORR probably saw all these bands when they first started coming to Chicago, like '88-90, or maybe earlier with Soundgarden or some of the pre-bands, like Green River.

The Melvins were always too close to metal (voice, lyrics especially) for me, and they have like 20 albums, but it seems so effortless to them and they are fun to listen to sometimes.

I saw Mudhoney and the Melvins at Metro. We also played a gig with The Accüsed, I think it was at a Mexican bar on Clark & Greenleaf called Las Estrellas. The main guy from The Accüsed, Blaine was a cool guy. He was roommates with Andrew Wood and we talked about Mother Love Bone. "Chloe Dancer" is better than any Pearl Jam song with the possible exception of "Corduroy."

Mother Love Bone was good--it's too bad about Andrew Wood. I don't think they would have had the popularity of Pearl Jam, but I'm pretty confident that they would have had a better sound. "Chloe Dancer" has got to be one of my favorite 20-30 songs of all time.
