If I were to play air drums to a Def Leppard song with both arms, does that make me a bad guy?

I like Hysteria. Not sure I would put it in the category of Perfect Album tho. But a solid listen IMO.

You could say "Gary's Got a Boner", "Tommy Gets His Tonsils Out", and maybe even the cover of "Black Diamond" are filler, but the record would be less perfect without them.

I've had this conversation with CH. I know this is true of just about all music, but you had to be at the right place at the right time to appreciate that album. In my humble opinion Tim and Pleased to Meet Me are head and shoulders better. To me Let It Be mostly just sounds like noise. The same can be said of Husker Du's Zen Arcade.

I have to disagree. Pleased to Meet Me is definitely their best sounding album but both Let It Be and Tim had better songs. Tommy Ramone ruined Tim with a shitty mix. Jim Dickinson ruined "Can't Hardly Wait" with the Memphis Horns.

Let It Be has arguably Westerberg's best song- and that's saying a lot- in "I Will Dare" and then there's the raw emotion of "Unsatisfied", "Answering Machine", and "Sixteen Blue."

I read a review once where the writer said that Westerberg never made a great record without Bob Stinson. He made some good ones like Pleased to Meet Me and a couple of his solo albums, but nothing that measures up to Tim or Let It Be. "Sixteen Blue" isn't even a song I particularly like but Bob's solo on the outro is downright majestic.

I know it's just my opinion, but Youthanasia just sounded like leftovers from Countdown to Extinction, which was a very good album.
Outside of the classic "Peace Sells" and "Rust In Pease", I think "Cryptic Writings" is among their best. Certainly "Trust" and "Almost Honest" are masterpieces of non-thrash Rock songwriting.

I will give Youthanasia another try.

Don't give it another spin on my account. I went through a phase during college ( mid 90s ) where I got into more metal and my friend at the time introduced me to Megadeth. Metallica was really big back in that time period as well but they had kind of shifted over to mainstream by that point. Also attended a Tool concert around that general timeframe but not sure they are really considered metal by people who are fans of that style of music.

They’re very close together so I’m sure there was some run-off. I’d take either one of those as perfect albums actually.

Also, I forgot:

Radiohead - OK Computer

Music is obv very emotional, my first exposure to them at 17 was through Pleased to Meet me. Then I got Tim on cassette

Let it be kinda came last for me and while I don’t have as much emotional attachment to it I agree that objectively it’s their best album

I've never found the mix on Tim to be jarring. I'll listen to it again, and if you're right, you might have just ruined the album for me.

That being said, "Here Comes A Regular" is one of the most haunting and emotionally raw Replacements songs and is probably my favorite. Also, I think Pleased to Meet Me is probably a more even album, but the good songs on Tim are better than the good songs onPleased to Meet Me, so I have to give the nod to Tim as the best Replacements album.

I agree completely. "Does of Thunder" and "Lay It Down, Clown" are songs a middling hardcore band would play. Tim was recorded at a time when Bob was pretty much checked out and Westerberg has said that he wrote those just so Bob had something to go nuts on.
