I forgot "Time" by Joe Satriani, another great one.

Anyone mention "I will Survive" - Cake yet?

(BTW - Found this site when looking up a cover song. It appears that they're trying to compile a comprhensive list of cover songs, good & bad)

Train Kept A Rollin - Aerosmith
Whiskey In the Jar - Metallica
Gin and Juice - Gourds (I always thought it was Les Claypool)
All Along the Watchtower - DMB
Pure Imagination - Smoking Popes

Damn this is a tough list to make.

I'm surprised no one mentioned 'I fought the Law' by The Clash, that's got to be one of the greatest cover songs of all time...

I bet you didn't know this, but the 1970 classic rock fave "Black Magic Woman" by Santana was actually first recorded by Fleetwood Mac and its original lineup two years earlier in 1968. When you hear another classic rock fave, "All Along the Watchtower", you hear the Jimi Hendrix version from '68. I bet you're not aware that Bob Dylan also recorded that classic rock song I believe 2 years earlier in '66. In addition to "Black Magic Woman" & "All Along the Watchtower", John Fogerty & Creedence Clearwater Revival did a rockin' cover of Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" in 1970, David Lee Roth & Van Halen along with the unlikely duo of Mick Jagger & David Bowie in 1985 covered another Motown fave "Dancing in the Streets", which I believe Martha & the Vandellas took to the top of the charts in the mid '60s. Call me Dick Biondi, Bob Stroud, or call me someone with way too much time on my hands, but those are my top 5 and then some...

so, this is how narrow my music listening and knowledge was until right around 1994 or so....I call it The Downard Spiral effect.
I had never heard Fleetwood Mac's Landslide, until the Smashing Pumpkins covered it. SP does a good version of Cinammon Girl and Deftones has a fantastic version of Ordinary Love by Sade on their b-sides and rarities disc. both worth a listen.

Cinnammon Girl

Ordinary Love

Has anyone ever heard Stone Temple Pilots' cover of Led Zeppelin's "Dancing Days"? It sounds very acoustic the way Scott Weiland and STP covered Zep's classic...

I've heard it shark, and it is fantastic, I heard this version before the original, so I like it better than the led zeppelin version...
