My initial response was to this, but it wasn't solely tell you they suck. Maybe re-read the thread starting with the post I quoted. Your responses since then make it sound as if somebody else created this thread to bash Phish. It's ok that some people don't like Phish. It's ok that they share that opinion with you.

MSG is a famous sports arena, and is known by some as "the most famous arena in the world" because of one reason - that's how they (MSG) refer to themselves. Welcome to Madison Square Garden, the most famous arena in the world.......
I've never seen a concert at MSG, but I'd rather see a show at Metro 100 times out of 100 than any show at any giant sports arena if I had the choice.

Spanky, you are having a tough time with facts. This was your first response to me:

spanky wrote:
Chus wrote:

Getting to play there doesn't = "getting to play there whenever they want". Lots, and lots, and lots of musicians have played MSG. I'll bet even some that you think are pretty terrible.

The first thing you did was argue something that I didn't say. I never said that other musicians didn't play there, I was talking about NYE, and how often Phish plays there on NYE.

They're pretty terrible, IMO. But definitely not irrelevant. Has anyone ever said they were irrelevant, Mr. Bernstein?

Secondly, you told me they suck, and followed it up with an insinuation that I was building a Bernstein-esque strawman.

Thirdly, you dismissively accused me of going on a "militant crusade", for merely taking an opposite stance as you.

spanky wrote:

And I never said otherwise. I couldn't care less if you, Frank, or anybody likes Phish or not. Most people here don't. I asked what the point is of telling somebody that there music is terrible. Instead of answering that question, you argued points I never made, and then tried to dismiss me as the one with an axe to grind.

MSG is a famous sports arena, and is known by some as "the most famous arena in the world" because of one reason - that's how they (MSG) refer to themselves. Welcome to Madison Square Garden, the most famous arena in the world.......

It is the most famous sports/concert arena in the world, and I think you know that. It's hard to tell if you are being serious, or just trolling. I love the Metro and other intimate venues, as well, but Phish isn't going to be playing them anytime soon.

Spanky, on the topic of small venues, have you ever been to the Barrymore Theater in Madison, WI?

Yes. Once to see Old 97's. It kinda reminded me of a single-level high school auditorium. But they had very good beer for sale.

Chus, my point is that they are not the only ones allowed to play there on NYE. If Bruce Springsteen's people (or some other very successful act/band) contacted MSG and said, "Bruce would like to play a series of shows from Dec 29th 2013 thru Jan 2nd 2014," I highly doubt the power's that be at MSG would say, "Nope, sorry, we need to check with Phish first!" They would book Bruce and that would be that.
I never said that.
I beg to differ;

I meant on a particular night, only one band can be a headliner in a venue.

Many other artists can indeed play MSG on New Years if they chose to.

Except the nights when other bands are already playing there.

Yes. I think the sound in that place is fantastic. Not to mention the beer selection.

That was a fun show. I watched the stream several days later. I tend to be a bit let down with their NYE shows the last couple years, but this was great. I want a golf ball. Definitely did not see Tweezer Reprise coming there, that was neat.

I think I am at an age where I could possibly appreciate them. :P

I know that Trey is amazing. I've read plenty of articles on him over the years. The doc of him and Dave Matthews in Africa was fantastic. But I think I could only name you two Phish songs.

Where should I start?

Download "A Live One", then "Junta", then my favorite "A Picture of Nectar".

I think that a big one for you though might be Billy breathes... there's one you play on that album plus a lovely song called Prince Caspian.

I was personally a HUGE fan of "Rift" because it was dreamy and weird and jazzy and just got me pumped.

I remember Billy Breathes from the dorm room days... 8)

I'm pretty sure one of the later roommates had Live One at some point.

OMG I loved Rift. I sent the band a letter with my personal interpretation of the album and got a letter back from Trey, like a handwritten letter. It was cool.

IMO, Mike Gordon, the bass player, is the best musician in the group.

Frank: It's the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year's Day.

Jane: Goodyear?

Frank: No, the worst.

 Nice.
Yeah man I think Rift is one of my favorites. Weigh is a great song, and I always dig Fast Enough and especially Silent in the Morning. I love Silent in the Morning.
Just a fantastic concept album. The powers that be won't put it up there with albums like Mindcrime but it's every damn bit as good a concept album as that.
