Nice.... I watched this on HBO a couple of months ago and while not as good as I once remembered it, still an interesting
little film

Yeah, I watched it again a few weeks ago as well. I never really liked it, but I love the soundtrack.

I agree with both of you. Cameron Crowe movies do not age well. The soundtracks are generally pretty great though.

Almost Famous is the exception to that rule for me.

Anyway, this is what I'm listening to now

Did you really? I'm surprised. I was gonna ask you about them since you've mentioned everyone else during that period....I actually saw them, but hardly remember a thing.

They were pretty heavy, I'll give them that. What's the name of that record? Ten Gospel Greats, maybe? I'm pretty sure a guy named Brendan Burke played drums on that album. Brendan is a good guy and he was in a much better band than God's Acre called King Vitamin. I believe the bass player, Mark Blade, lived at Hell House for awhile. We were kind of the house band at Hell House. We played a lot of shows there. I remember seeing God's Acre practicing there. Brian St. Clair was the drummer at the time. Really, it was Trust Fund Pete's band. They always came off as if they were auditioning to get signed to Sub Pop.

Brendan Burke was definitely their drummer--that's all I know!

I saw them and Nirvana in 1990. I wasn't into either--in fact, I had never heard of either and got dragged to the show. I actually had this record (Ten Gospel Greats) at one point. I like listening to them now and then, but the stuff online is bad quality. They sound like . . . a grunge band.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the show much except that Nirvana was pretty cool and Kurt Cobain sweat on me. (I wish I could remember more because I was trying to write about it and a job in Bridgeport that started the next day. It would have made the perfect opening.) I was off school for a year and a half, and just before I went back to Champaign, some hipster taped Bleach for me and didn't believe me when I said I had seen them. (I hadn't listened to them in the interim, so no cool points for me.) A few months later, Nirvana hit it big. I don't think God's Acre went anywhere.

This is a nice toe-tapper: Prophets of Rage, "Unfuck the World"

Just gave this a spin and I share your sentiment. I expect a little bit more from these guys, plus one of the songs was a cover of
House Of The Rising Sun and that was one of the better tracks.

I couldn't finish A Crow Looked at Me. Maybe I'm in the wrong headspace for it, I dunno, I got to the sixth track, yelled "OKAY YOUR WIFE DIED OKAY I GET IT" and put the new New Pornographers on instead.

In concert at Ravinia. Taking my daughter. Not to hate-listen--I got respect for the guy--but it should make for good stories. "What a fool belieeeeeeves he seeeeeeees, no wise man has the power to reason away."

I never thought much about him, but I saw an interview with him recently. He seemed pretty cool.

I'll have to disagree. Cameron Crowe is probably the one person that can put out a chick flick that has enough odd characters and humor that I enjoy.

I still love Singles the movie. Almost Famous is still good. Fast Times at Ridgemont High...I even found Elzabthtown, which was straight-up estrogen, funny enough to tolerate. The only movie of his I cannot stand is "Say Anything". That one is pure crap.
His soundtracks are always great.

He's certainly a good sport about people poking fun at him. I should think he's in a good place; after all, he's gotten to do what he wanted to do and he snagged an awesome guest appearance on What's Happening!!
