I'll leave these gems here. Please add on

Big Love acoustic - Lindsey Buckingham - His guitar work on this is EPIC
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naAWX6OsHVI

Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac - I like this ALOT better than the studio version

If you like Jane's Addiction there are a number of them on the
Jane's Addiction live album (XXX). They also play a great
version of Sympathy For the Devil on that one.

Edit - sorry for the vagueness of the post but I have no access
to youtube at work. Probably a good thing.

you really surprise me hernandez...just because i think i've only ever heard you talk about hip hop. but it TOTALLY agree with you on the Big Love....I bought "The Dance" which is pretty bad only because it had that live acoustic version of Big Love on it. i think lindsey buckingham is very underrated as a guitar player- you never hear him mentioned in talks of great guitar players

for rock, i tend to actually prefer live stuff in general. just because i think i don't like a heavily produced sound- i like it more raw.

one band that comes to mind is the Ramones...their studio albums are actually pretty tame sounding compared to It's Alive or Loco Live. also another type of improvement a live band can make is improvisation...i think a band like Yo La Tengo, they switch up stuff a lot playing live- like playing a slow ballad as a punk song or vice versa. Guided By Voices is another band- their records are noted for being lo-fi, but their live show really brought the rock big time, it was totally different

 see I don't just listen to Big Pun and Fat Joe, merengue and salsa

The Roots also have awesome live shows. I've seen live versions of You Got Me w Badu and one w Jill Scott that were both really good

Big Love is really incredible live with just Lindsey. I'm thinking you saw the same concert I did on cable. Not a huge Fleetwood fan but I do think Lindsey is really underrated on guitar, especially acoustic.

Strange note: when Lindsey isn't playing the guitar, just singing, he has a really bad habit of waving his hand around in a way that makes him look...well, weird.

Pretty much the entire Alice in Chains Unplugged album. Every song was awesome live. Better than studio by leaps and bounds IMHO. Might be the best live album since Frampton.

Yeah, that is probably my go to "Im depressed as hell" record. Lot's of great tracks on there. "Nutshell" is great.

I spent a lot of time with Jar of Flies and the sequence...I'm sort of partial to it over the unplugged versions.

I bought this before any other or their albums, and I just can't get into their other work, but I love every song on that album.

Another one for me would be Pete Yorn's live from New Jersey CD, not many people have heard of him, but his live shows are just as good as his studio work, and some songs like "Long Way Down" are even better live...

edit:
Here is a link to some of the songs:

Cheap Trick's At Budokan is a great listen from start to finish and IMO better than a lot of the studio versions.

That's because a good portion of Cheap Trick's studio work is crap. I do like Surrender though.

I don't care if I'm in the minority or not, I love the 20 minute jams complete with 'Boogie Chillun' and 'Thats Alright' medleys

'Yellow Ledbetter'-- Pearl Jam

I don't know about you, but Eric Clapton's 1979 live version of "Cocaine" was better than the studio version 2 years earlier he released on the "Slowhand" CD.
