I figured I'd switch it up since there's already copious amounts of metal here. within the section.

I'll start by recommending a couple of new releases from Chicago MC's Lupe Fiasco(Food and Liquor) and Rhymefest (Blue Collar).

The new DJ Shadow, The Outsider, is prettty solid too. It's not as good as Entroducing... (especially the double disc re-release, which is exceptional, get that one if you can), but it's still a good listen.

I dunno Nas, it was just meant as a starting point I guess to show that the section is more than just metal. Just thought I'd kick it off by giving some recommendations of new stuff.

Stinkfinger, those are both good choices. Lupe's style and wordplay are sick and hopefully he & Rhymefest can put Chicago on the map.

Hip hop has been dominated by phonies like 50 Cent or those fake ass southern "crunk" rappers for about the last four years. Artists like that are disgracing the Hip Hop game. It's time for real Hip Hop to make a return to the forefront.

If there are any Hip Hop fans on this board, I'd also suggest finding Talib Kweli's mixtape, "The Beautiful Mix CD." A lot of good stuff on there.

I'm a big Lupe Fiasco fan. He's really got his crunk on.

I'm out. Peace.

I haven't heard that one yet, but I much preferred Quality over The Beautiful Struggle.

Was I the only one slightly disappointed with Murs' most recent collaboration with 9th Wonder, Murray's Revenge? I loved his solo work prior to that, and Felt with Slug from Atmosphere.

Anyone listen to K-Os? His newer album Joyful Rebellion is great and has a unique mixture of different music styles while still remaining hip hop. Great stuff.

I actually liked most of the songs on this CD - especially "Yesterday & Today." I haven't heard any of his work prior to this one though so I can't make a fair comparison.

And I agree, Talib Kweli's Quality album was 10 times better than The Beautiful Struggle. Quality was Kweli's best work since BlackStar with Mos Def.

I gotta check that one out too. It's probably not as good as Endtroducing...but then again what is? That album was classic.

I've heard good things about the new DJ Shadow and will check it out. I can upload the K-Os cd and post the download link here if anyone wants.

Not a huge hip-hop fan, but I was blown away by that Lupe record. The Rymefest album was a little under-whelming. The new Roots record has some great moments and I was very diisapointed by the new Streets album, his previous one, "A Grand..." is probably my favirote hip-hop album of all time.

Yeah A Grand Don't Come for Free was a great album but I haven't heard the new one yet. Too bad it sucks. Original Pirate Material was decent though. The Streets are all or nothing for a lot of people I know. Some love it and some hate it. I guess that can be expected for a cochny accented white English rapper.

Ask and ye shall receive. Here's some of the better songs on Joyful Rebellion. Songs 3,4,7, and 8 are my favorite. Enjoy. Here's the download link below.

hmmm..."A Grand" is that good? I have original pirate, but thought it was at best a grade B album. i'll have to check it out.

"The Outsider" is good, but Stink is right, Shadow has done better. Private Press is on par with it.

don't know if it qualifies as hip hop per se.....but I love both N.E.R.D. albums. fly or die still gets regular plays. Skateboard P...Pharrell, is my favorite artist of that genre for sure. Even the B-side stuff, Neptunes, or anything he's on, is great by me..........
except his solo album, "in my mind." i just can't get into it. :?

Plus the chick in the video for "She Wants To Move" by N.E.R.D. is on my all time list.

Anyone notice Bernstein discussing almost this exact same topic just now in the first hour? He even mentioned how he likes the Lupe cd. Hmmm....

Hawk, I've always thought Berns was a phony when it came to rap & hip hop. It's been long assumed that he visits this forum. He strikes me as the type of guy who occasionally researches "what the kids are listening to" so he can appear hip and informed.

Yeah I can see that too. Fake or not I do like and agree with many of his opinions on music though. All except for his newly found hatred for Pink Floyd.

"Money" is one of the best rock songs ever made. Bernstein is sniffing glue.

Anybody into Talib Kweli / Reflection Eternal?

I loved Hi-Tek's first album and saw he has another one out, anybody heard it? (I know Nas appears on it, along with Kweli, Jadakiss, Papoose, Raekown, etc.)

Also like Madlib, MF Doom, Stones Throw stuff in general, Redman, Little Brother, Nicolay, Dilated Peoples, J-Live, etc.

Baku, hell yeah. I love conscious rap. The bling shit is okay sometimes but Talib is one of those guys who shows it doesn't always have to be about that. I'd appreciate it if more rappers said what they felt instead of sounding like everybody else.

Nas, I'm about to pick up the CD today. The hip hop game definitely suffered without Jay-Z over the last three years.

The new Clipse, Hell Hath No Fury is a solid listen as well. Some great Neptunes beats on that one.

Nas, I forgot to post this last week when I saw it, but it's a pretty good Nas interview, thought you might be interested. If you haven't seen it it's not bad

Right now, Stones Throw really can't put anything bad out. It reminds me of Rawkus in the 90's, except Stones Throw is even better. Right now Madlib and Oh No are two of the best producers in the game, check out Dr. No's Oxperiment, and instrumental album that's just outstanding. I have a link to it if anyone wants.

In the past couple years they've put out 2 great Oh No albums, Madlib's Beat Konducta series, some great J Dilla stuff, Georgia Anne Muldrow (great voice over sparse production), the 10 year anniversary comp and more. And coming up looking forward to Percee P and Guilty Simpson this fall. Anything this label puts out, I'm willing to check out.

The new Talib Kweli album is OUTSTANDING. Highly recommended. I didn't think he could recover from that Beautiful Struggle abomination, but this is great. Reflection Eternal and Black Star will always be the classics, but this easily trumps every other album he's put out
