Going to see Ike Reilly again at his studio in Libertyville on April 30th. He's going heavy on a blues theme this time and bringing in Jason Ricci...a blues harp virtuoso.

Quote:
IKE REILLY'S BLACK AND BLUE SATURDAY
Featuring JASON RICCI and other special guests!
On Saturday, April 30 Ike Reilly brings the Blues to Diamond City Studio on the outskirts of Libertyville, IL.
Ike will perform songs by The Butterfield Blues Band, Howlin' Wolf, Lighting Hopkins, Willie Dixon, Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan and his own blues influenced songs culled from previous releases as well as his latest critically acclaimed album Born On Fire.
Joining Reilly and members of the Assassination will be the incredible Jason Ricci! Hailing from New Orleans, Jason is truly one of the greatest Blues harmonica players in the world; he played harp on Johnny Winters GRAMMY award winning record "Step Back" and was recently a featured performer along with Zack Brown and Tom Morello at the 2016 ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME induction of The Butterfield Blues Band. Other guests include the gifted songwriter Kaitlin Dibble and as well as other surprises. Limited tickets will be sold and they go on sale this Saturday!

Saw Greg Dulli in March at the old folk school blah blah blah.

Fucking awesome. Admittedly I am a fan boy to the nth degree but it really is a performance any average fan can truly enjoy. That place is cool as fuck too.

I'm also gigging a bit, and working a bunch of shows on the side. Let me know if any of y'all want to meetup for something.

The Ike Reilly show last night was pretty fucking awesome...this guy Jason Ricci is probably the greatest blues harp player in the planet right now.

Reilly's next semi private gig will apparently involve the members of the band Cracker...who have been known to jam at his studio and have covered his song Duty Free.

I worked Skid Row and Great White on Saturday.

One thing to note, when you are in the thick of midlife in the crowd or on the stage... Screaming 18 and life and Youth gone wild, really doesn't work. I shed tears for humanity.

Really cool guys all the way around though.

Solid consummate professionals who did their songs well for sure. The new singer is perfect for them. Still two of your biggest hits are youth centric. It doesn't age well and I am sure they would love to drop them from the set but there is no way you can.

Went to see Silversun Pickups at the Rave in Milwaukee Friday night. They we good, but Foals opened for them and stole the show IMO. I had never heard them before, but they gained a fan. Bought their album on the way out (What Went Down) and really like it.

Explain this to me. The Misfits played the Arcada last night. That is all fine and good but they announce that they are playing reunited with Danzig at riot fest in Chicago last week. Why the fuck would you announce that before your show on Saturday which isn't sold out? Just wait 5 days. Completely baffled by that.

The girlfriend's band played Reggie's last night. I didn't get to go due to sick kids. Looked like fun.

Saw Dead and Company at alpine. Mayer really is doing a good job. They are clearly passing the torch and the dead company will be something like menudo.

I listened to audio streams of both shows. They really sounded great. I'm still not a fan of Mayer's singing, but the dude can shred. He has really taken this whole thing seriously. Oteil Burbridge might be the best bass player on the planet. I can't believe what a cohesive unit they have turned out to be. I'm disappointed that I didn't go one night.

Yeah he is really killing it. I hated his voice but it is growing on me. Really worked in Box of Rain. Oteil was just amazing to watch. Phil Lesh was no slouch by any means maybe the most talented member but Oteil is a monster. We had great seats too luckily and it was the tightest I had witnessed the dead (granted I only saw them towards the end which we all know wasn't the best). Eyes of the world just destroyed. Also I don't know if you saw or just listened but man Mayer was so hyped (maybe geeked out) during St STEPHEN it was fun. I am no means then biggest dead fan by a long shot but this version of them is good. I like that bob has branded it as a cover band too.

Very much looking forward to seeing Thee Oh Sees this coming Saturday at Thalia Hall. Haven't seen the band yet, and have never been to the venue either.

That definitely lived up to my expectations. I was on the fence about The Empty Bottle show but ended up passing at the last moment as well. Nothing but good things to say about Thalia Hall.

I bet that was a good show. Did they play a variety of their catalog or mostly new stuff?

No the whole spectrum it was well balanced. The little stripped down acoustic parts was awesome. I am a fan boy of sorts and they don't come around often so it was cool to see the kill a place like the Aragon.

So, yeah, I went to another show at Ike Reilly's. It was a rollicking fun holiday show! Guest stars were Kevin Farley, Pat Finn and James Murphy...all pals from their Marquette days in the early 80s. Farley and Finn are B list comic actors that most people will recognize.

Image

Farley is on the left and Finn is on the far right.

Murphy is the head of animation at Pixar http://magazine.marquette.edu/issues/winter-2015/shaping-an-animator/. He got onstage with his ukulele and played this song he wrote for an animated short called Lava. I had never heard it, but all the moms in the crowd started singing along and crying...they had all seen it as the opening short before "Inside Out". Who knew?
