While Palmer may be playing well this year, the last 5 or so seasons he has been awful. He is not a top 5 QB unless the NFL is doomed.

I’ve always thought Romo is overrated…he’s a good QB, but gets the benefit of being a member of the Cowboys.

I wouldn't go by just stats. There's no way Andy Dalton is a top 5 QB. A big part of the position is making plays under pressure. Andy Dalton becomes Blaine Gabbert when he's pressured.

I could think long and hard about agreeing with this (injuries aside). Good list.
I've always thought that (injuries aside) Carson Palmer is a fantastic QB that I'd like on my side. So I might find a way to get him in there.

Really smart QB critics have told me that injuries matter for pure-passing QB's, so I might be wrong on this.

A bunch of guys could be substituted for three through five, depending on injuries and such. Luck, Rivers, Eli, Peyton, Palmer, Brees.

For my money, it's Rodgers, Brady, Dan Fouts, and everybody else.

I don't even know if this post is serious or not. Welcome to the NFL in 2015.

Probably not, but he's probably still better than like 10-12 starters in all seriousness.

1) Tom Brady
2) Tom Brady
3) Tom Brady
4) Tom Brady
5) Drillip Rivdgers

naw seriously, right at this moment would you put in Dalton? Rivers? obviously Rodgers is coasting on his rep right now but he currently isn't in top-5 form.... and then shit, does our(-brick) guy Cutler start to get some kudos before we start anointing cam newton? statistically speaking eli and derek carr and carson palmer are right there too...

so hrmmm right now i'd honestly say:

1/1A) Tom Brady
2/1B) Aaron Rodgers
[considerable gap]
3) Drew Brees
4) Philip Rivers
5) Eli Manning (??? equal # of super bowls to everyone else on this list other than brady.... combined!)

and then right now i'd say starting with #6 is where your daltons palmers and derek carrs come in. i'm giving rivers the slight nod above all of them @ #4 cuz he has no running game to speak of with a horrible defense and yet he's on pace to challenge for the single season yards record.

oh and also

9001) Jay Cutler (just cuz boilermaker rick said so, and i never doubt a purdue-educated man!)

For the first time in his career I think Brady is the best QB in football and has proven that he is far more valuable than Rodgers.

That's crazy. Stop being crazy for a minute. Brady has been the best QB in the league before this, and he's not far more valuable that Rodgers. He's the better player this year, but it's still just a sample size of 9 games out of 100+ for these guys. Rodgers is right there with Brady, and a clear notch below so far this year.

There was a little bait mixed in that post for you. The first year Brady had Moss he was the best too but with the physical tools Rodgers has Brady shouldn't be better than him at 50.

Moreso than any position in sports, QBs needs to be as smart as they are physically gifted. Brady's a goddamn genius back there. He must have a goddamned IQ of a hundred and fifty.

ESPN QBR has it as follows:

1) Palmer
2) Dalton
3) Big Ben
4) Brady
5) Rodgers

I would mostly agree with that, but I'd still swap Brees in for Dalton.

Jay Cutler is playing as well as any of them right now.

That will probably change by the second quarter of next week

If I had to say, I would put Luck, Big Ben, and either Rivers or Russell Wilson as 3-5. The WSJ was correct though, the QB position is in trouble.

This is part of why the NFL is so boring this year. Rodgers, Manning and Brady are old news.

Its probably going to get a lot worse. Bad QB play almost all around. However we are really starting to see the effects of a lot of these rule changes, and not being able to hit in practice and most of training camp. All of this is combining to lead to a lot of mediocre football across the league. I haven't been this disinterested in an NFL season since probably pre-Lovie

And of course then there is the whole "catch" "no catch" "Process of a catch" thing which seems to rear its ugly head at least once every week.

I don't really know what this means. Those guys weren't old news last year and the year before?

I don't get the "NFL is boring this year" argument I keep seeing. It's the same league it is every year. Got two really good/great teams in each conference, and then some decent teams that can get hot and maybe make a SB run, and then a bunch of average and terrible teams.

i don't recall "the same league every year" having 2 divisions that might be won by teams that finish under .500, 17 teams under the .500 mark now, and lopsided games that are supposed to be between "average" teams. i don't know that i'd call it a boring year but i certainly wouldn't say it's league average.

The NFL is boring, I watch a lil bit less each year for 3 years now. Very little action, Too many replays and penalties.

Cam only has a 84.8 QB rating...obviously, there's more to it than that, but that's fairly low.

All of these guys have higher QB ratings plus more passing yards.
Tom Brady
Carson Palmer
Andy Dalton
Aaron Rodgers
Derek Carr
Drew Brees

I'd say Cam's problem is 9 interceptions to only 15 TDs....plus 2 fumbles. He's gotta protect the football.
