Bryzee’s dad looked yoked, Bears should draft him in round 5.

Philly just recreating Georgia’s defense.

Of which Jalen Carter was the best player for the past two years…whom the Bears passed on.

Our Assistant GM came from Philly, why no desire to build a great defense like theirs? No we just help them get better.

Probably because he knows a great OL is more valuable?

Don't try and rationalize it. Carter was the crown jewel of the draft before his issues. There's no argument that grabbing him at 9 wouldn't have been the right thing to do from a value perspective. If you don't want Carter then do better than giving up a chance to draft him for a 2024 fourth rounder.

If Moses Moreno was dropping back for the Bears, draft as many defensive guys as you want. Fields might have the chance to be a top tier NFL QB. Let’s get that OL set up, then draft a bunch of defensive guys.

I feel like the Bears are a little to wink/wink friendly with Philly, 'oh you want Carter, here you can have him for basically free''

Agreed could have squeezed more out of Philly or anyone else there at #9.

They got a right tackle, (we hope). It's arguably the least important position on the oline. They could have nabbed one in free agency and then done pure BPA at 9. They backed themselves into reaching on a position of need because of their inaction in free agency, which they had the most cap space in the NFL.

This is a draft thread. We can debate what the Bears did or didn’t do in FA. As it stood, the Bears had a terrible OL heading into tonight.

This is a draft thread. The Bears made the right pick tonight taking an OL dude.

It does not sound like there were suitors for his services. He wasn't even on the boards of several teams.

He’ll have to settle for one of the best run teams in the league with maybe the best front office.

ok, (in this draft) they did not take the BPA at 9. Hopefully they don't have to pass on Marvin Harrison Jr next year because of another glaring hole they refuse to address.

Right. Philly was taking him at 10, and the Bears couldn't convince the Eagles that they were legitimately contemplating selecting Carter. And no one else wanted to give up significant draft capital to move in front of Philly and draft him. Poles was stuck.

I do tend to agree with this on your assessment of Philly. That said, it wasn’t that long ago that Philly was in disarray after firing their SB winning coach for obviously tanking games benching their starting QB who many weren’t sold on because he was too run dependent. Narratives move fast in the NFL.

Philly won the draft so far, I would have taken Skoronski there if they had Carter as undraftable. I'm fine with getting a 4th next year to drop one spot.

Yes, no other team had the infrastructure in place to make that gamble. Not even the Steelers, and they are the best organization in football.

It is kind of a gut punch to know that the Bears could be getting calls to trade up for Levis with the first pick of Round 2 right now. I guess we will see if the Steelers make a trade.

I started feeling like Caller Bob around the 24th pick last night.

She definitely has the feel of the chick in Varsity Blues who does the ice cream sundae look on the new QB when her boyfriend gets injured.

Not as many chances to improve the team thru the draft this year.

I agree Poles is inconsistent as a mover and shaker but it's misleading to frame this as just one pick on the top 50. What hea done is this:

Here's what he's actually done to improve last year's team, some of which was done mid season last year:

Claypool (effectively the Bears second 2023 first round pick)
Wright
Moore

So the above is basically the Bears 2023 day one draft class.

Their day one draft class is a legit #1 WR, a WR 2 who will play 90% of your offensive snaps and your day one starter at RT?

Sign me the fuck up for that. There are teams drafting guys that will only play on 3rd down, and that is their day one draft class.

I dont think you understand the player Chase Claypool is, because he is not what you describe above

If a team wanted Levis at 32 I think they would have moved into the end of R1 for the 5th year. It's likely he falls to Round 3 now.
