they must have REALLY loved mayfield over the other 3... because i think the general consensus was mayfield was #3 or 4... so browns could have traded down and probably gotten mayfield at 4. but if he was their guy then you dont fuck around and just take the guy |

I know the GM can't really think like this, but the thing about picking Mayfield is that there are already a lot of things to worry about with him and his attitude. Any first round quarterback can succeed but you are already coming from a position where there were known things that make him less likely to succeed in the NFL. A first round quarterback pick has to be looked at like a lottery ticket. You can't ever be sure about anyone. To take a guy like Mayfield with the #1 pick is putting yourself in a hole at the very start given the clear question marks about him. If I was Cleveland, I would have taken Barkley one, and then been willing to accept that I would get at least the third best quarterback in the draft knowing that there is no way to be able to project that any is more likely of success. If I lose out on Mayfield then I get one of the other guys. This is a more egregious mistake than Pace made last year by trading up one spot. I'll take Barkley + Rookie QB 1, 2, or 3 over Mayfield + Ward and think I have a much better chance at success. It seems like GM's don't get the concept that the qb position, with first round rookies, is almost impossible to predict. Look at the Manning vs. Leaf draft, or how Goff went from terrible to pretty good, or how RGIII was considered the future of the NFL and now he jumps from team to team. Maybe they don't want to go to their owners and say "I'm not smart enough to know which rookie QB will be better than the other ones so I'm just going to pick one" but they should. |

Just heard on ESPN that they brought in Scott McCloughan this off season. He is the best talent evaluator in the NFL. |

don't be surprised if they pull off a miracle win in NO this sunday. they've got some confidence coming in, and the saints are back to being paper tigers. it happened in 2010 too. |

I legitimately cracked up at the blocked FG. So much excitement...so much buildup...so much Browns. |

this team is a coach away from 7 or 8 wins. |

I dont even think Jackson has done a bad job this year, but the culture there is just one of imminent defeat. They are not the worst team in the NFL this year, hell they probably weren't even the worst team in the NFL last year! They just lose close games in the most excruciating ways possible. For that they need a new coach. I think Jason Garrett may be an alluring possibility, as Dallas is just a toxic hell hole and getting a fresh start in Cleveland may be a nice way for him to bounce back. Its not an attractive job either, the Browns aren't gonna get the pick of the litter. |

Myles Garrett looks like a perennial DPOY candidate and Baker is going to be awesome. Lot of young talent on both sides of the ball. |

Plus they have Ward, who to me has looked everywhere bit better than even Myles Garrett. Defense sure looks like it has the stud edge rusher and shutdown CB both under the age of 23 with years and years of rookie deal left. Ward in particular looks like he may be special. I agree with you overall but there is still a lot of uncertainty at QB and, no matter how promising they look, it's still Cleveland. There is a stink of failure in that place that seems to infect everyone. Call it superstition if you want but most guys only get one shot at the HC job and Cleveland is a really risky place to use that chance. |

Belichick needs to go back to where it all started after Brady retires. It's the only thing left to do in the NFL for him - make the Cleveland Browns a contender. |
