its liberating. I love having my sundays back again. I'm no longer a slave to 15 minutes of action and 3 hrs of beer and car commercials.

Agreed. Eets goot

Is the golden age of pro football over? If not, what revives a sport that lost 8 percent of it's viewing audience?

Zaidman suggested a D league to develop quarterbacks. Imo, not a bad idea, but not enough. Coaching and management is probably as bad as it ever has been, but never seems to be discussed. Or contraction.

I do know this though, television and the explosion of sports media passed the tipping point 15 years ago. We know and see way too much about mediocre "personalities"

No doubt the age of King Football is over nationally. I think it will still be king in the south from the coast to Texas but will flag in the northeast, west and eventually the Midwest. The product is going to continue to get worse as fewer participate which will decrease the talent.

MANY problems with the NFL could be fixed by addressing these points;

-The lack of hitting in OTAs & training camp is leading to poor play and a multitude of injuries

-Rules are way too wordy and seem to change based on what referee team is calling the game

-Thursday games largely suck, and the novelty has worn off. Have them a handful of times thru the year...say no more than 6 of them (outside of Thanksgiving). Have teams playing on Thursday coming off a bye

-Let players wear whatever color shoes, gloves, and headbands they want

-Less commercial breaks during the games. I know this means fewer advertising dollars, but there is no need to have a TD & extra point, commercial, kickoff, commercial, 3 & Out, commercial

Maybe people are turned off by fantasy football fueled video game offensive football.

The NFL is doing a great job in blaming the players for the quality of play. Even Dan Bernstein would be proud of how the media is mindlessly regurgitating the "players don't practice enough" storyline until it's accepted as fact. Management is well positioned to screw the players over in the next CBA because the public bought it hook line and sinker. When the quality of play and number of injuries don't improve when they're playing an 18 game schedule and having 3 a days during the regular season maybe the NFL can float out the idea that quality of play would be improved if only the players were sequestered to dorms during the season just like the preseason.

You started with this nonsense. Of course a bunch of football hungry hillbillies are going to tune the TVs in their trailers to the first NFL game that has been on in six months.

What nonsense is that?

The tumbling NFL ratings seem to be rebounding. That's it.

The NFL's largest problem is the decline in play and that can be directly linked to the new CBA limiting practice.

That's not getting solved anytime soon.

Coaches just have to adjust.

That's not even top 10 Imo, the stoppages, TV timeouts, replays, poor officiating and too many flags is the chief concern, then the rule changes. Very little action takes place in a 3 hour game.

The decline in play bullshit is pushed by the NFL on all its network partners to weaken the NFLPA's bargaining position. It's right up Bernstein's pro-everything management agenda alley.

I am with you on that list. The thing that bothers me the most is all the player injuries, which of course, no one can prevent.
