When they made the decision that every team has to play on a Thursday, that sure led to a lot of crappy games.

I think they have finally reached saturation.

Raiders have always been my 2nd favorite team BUT never televised in our area.

Hopefully that changes soon, because it's really hard to know a roster if you never see them.

I don't know why people don't ignore the Thursday games. I like them when nothing else is on.

The pace of play in the NFL really does seem to be the issue. It's far better to watch on dvr so you can fast forward through the replays and penalties.

They need to look at getting in some of the things college football does. The games may be just as long but the flow is much better.

I think the decline is because it looks like Arena Football. TD's are cheap.

Also, the decline can be correlated directly to the fading of the "super running back".
The RB seems to be an interchangeable part on most teams.

I miss the days of Payton,Earl Campbell,Tony Dorsett,etc.

That's rash, but you could take Nashville and Jacksonville out of the league and not miss a beat. The nice even scheduling rotation you get with 32 teams is nice, though.

The only NFL I watched was maybe 10 minutes of the Packers game yesterday when it was 10-6.

2 years ago I would never have imagined ignoring Sundays.

I'm not trying to protest CTE or anything. I just would rather do something else.

I never watch it. I don't even know who's playing. It's really weird for Fall Sundays to be like this.

When the Bears suck (this level of suckage anyway), I tend to lose interest in the league as a whole.

Low T beta males. I was only able to watch about 5.5 hours yesterday unfortunately.

If the team you rooted for was as horrible as the Bears, you'd probably lose interest. I don't think that's the only reason for me, though.

Nah, I love watching the entire league. And my team isn't much better than your team this year. Tune in Thursday for an example.

Three marquee franchises -- Bears, Redskins, Cowboys -- have sucked simultaneoulsy for years. And their fans have gone elsewhere.

I was at a local bar watching the 'Skins game. There were around 25 people there. The majority weren't even Bears fans. I actually spotted a Jags fan in the wild. Five Patriots fans, too.

A Bears/Skins NFC Championship game would get ratings that Packers/Panthers just can't.

The Web-motivated trend toward short, punchy online videos, analysts said, may have also motivated some viewers to skip the four-hour football broadcasts until they’ve been distilled down the next day.

By 2018 all NFL games will be watched through BuzzFeed videos explaining why the Eagles were lit, woke, and bae af for beating the Washington Football Team.

If they aren't tracking streaming yet then that must account for part of the decline.

And with all the good shows available via stream, why would anybody waste time with a dull Sunday, Monday or Thursday night game? There are only so many hours in a week.

And haven't the NY teams also been mediocre?

New York has been mediocre x2, Los Angeles has been mediocre, Chicago and San Francisco have been the worst in the NFC. That's a lot of cornerstone markets to concede. But of course, Dallas is having their best start in a long time, aren't they?

Yeah, but they will Dallas sooner or later. Romo will ensure Prescott's work goes to shit.

Every college game on TV is like 4 hours long.

So?

I never said the length of games are the issue.

They don't seem to be a chore though. The Tennessee/A&M was ridiculously long but I was entertained.

It's 4 hours of fun rather than annoyance.

I believe there are significantly more plays. Halftime is also 8 minutes longer in college.

The flow of an NFL game is horrible now and their dumb replay rules only add to it.

The product is just complete shit all around. I feel like all of the things that were nuisances but still tolerable over the last few years have just hit the point where they're no longer outweighed by what's actually transpiring on the field. Bad commentary, worse "analysis." awful storylines (ESPN is seriously running commercials for Monday's Broncos-Texans game featuring slow-mo shots of Osweiler in a Broncos uniform while Third Eye Blind's "How's It Going to Be" plays), incompetent officials enforcing increasingly asinine rules, seemingly even more commercial breaks than ever before, seemingly even more awful Peyton commercials than ever before, etc. In terms of on-field product, it doesn't help that only a handful of teams appear capable of playing decent football for more than one quarter at a time. For all the crap the MLB and NBA get for tanking teams, some of these NFL teams look just as bad in their respective sport despite having a far shorter season, a far more arbitrary playoff, and appearing to actually try to win games.

Watch the Vikings play defense. It makes up for all of this.

Yeah currently the Ravens run 70.8 plays per game, tops in the NFL. That would put them 95th out of 128 in the NCAA. Tulsa runs 91.2. Mercifully Illinois runs the 2nd fewest plays per game in the NCAA so there's less of it to watch. I know I posted somewhere else it seems like the NFL tries to keep the clock running at every opportunity while college tries to get it to stop as much as possible.
