Bears could have swung that trade

I agree. Similar to the Glennon contract in guaranteed money but they get some picks.

Completely different situations. The Bears signed Glennon because they think he's good(he's not). The Browns traded for Brock because they could eat the money and it was worth it for the draft picks.

Brock was good in Denver. Maybe he needed a change of scenery.

I know why the Bears did it

The whole thing is just stunning.

Shefter: NFL stunner: Texans trade QB Brock Osweiler AND a 2018 second-round pick to Cleveland for the Browns to take Osweiler’s $16M salary of Houston’s books, per league sources. The move clears out millions in salary-cap space for Houston to intensify efforts to sign former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, per sources. To be exact, Houston saves $16 million in cash and $10 million against their cap this season. The Texans also will get the Browns’ fourth-round pick this year in exchange for their own 6th-round pick. So Cleveland gets Osweiler’s contract, a 2018 second-round pick and a 2017 sixth-round pick, and Houston gets Cleveland’s 2017 fourth-round pick, saves $10 million in salary-cap space and $16 million in cash. Cleveland is not committed to keeping Osweiler and is likely to try to trade him, per sources. If so, it would turn into a basketball-like trade in which NBA teams routinely trade contracts to get them off their books; only it rarely, if ever, happens in the NFL. It’s hard to remember in the salary-cap era another team when a team traded a contract to get it off its books. But Houston was so anxious to rid itself of Osweiler and move on to its next quarterbacking chapter that it is giving Cleveland extra picks to take him and his contract. The Browns headed into this free-agent signing period with over $100 million worth of salary-cap space and would struggle to spend it all. Now they can devote some of it to Osweiler’s contract and acquiring extra draft picks from Houston. But this is one of the most, if not the most, creative trade in NFL history.

i see some headline on ESPN.com like "andy dalton loses 2 offensive linemen coming off of a 41 sack season" and i can't help but be like "uhhh is that really a bad thing? how much worse can you get than that?"

/me has flashbacks to that one bears/giants SNF/MNF game that was effectively a big ol game of "smear the queer" where gay ol jay managed to get sacked like 6-8 times in the first half.

^^^that^^^ is what i get for asking rhetorical questions, huh? =P

I'm told Russell Okung has agreed to go the #Chargers on a 4-year deal for $53M. Guaranteed $25M

Looks like Mr. Okung got himself an agent this time around.

Robbie Gould can't stand Brandon Marshall so much that he just signed with the Niners.

Update on #Browns draft picks:

2017 - 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 6
2018 - 1, 2, 2, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 6, 6, 7

11 picks EACH in next 2 drafts

'Hey, our team really sucks' ... 'Agreed; let's draft a brand new one' ... 'Sounds good!'

Buying a mid 2nd round pick for $16M is a little pricey, but that is assuming they just waive Osweiler. They are going to need a competent backup in 2017, so they don't have to go find a Jimmy Clauson type. And if they do draft the kid from NC to be their eventual QB, he's probably best suited by spending the first 10-11 games on the bench.

why does it seem like every moneyball strategist's plan includes losing?

It's like a realtor whose first solution is to lower your asking price.

Apparently, they have a lot of interest in Fournette.

Why? They have Hyde.

Hyde is always hurt.
