Post subject:  Is Greg Olsen a HOFer?

Watching this top 100 players show on NFL network and more than one person called him a HOFer. My initial was of course he isn't, but after thinking about it a bit more I guess it's possible, if he plays at least a few more years at this level.

If you're the best or 2nd best at your position while you played it's at least a conversation. Gronk is the only TE who might be better and he can't stay healthy. Witten will get consideration too and Olsen is/was better.

Better than Jason Witten?

I think so. It's pretty close. Olsen is the only TE in NFL history to have three straight 1,000 yard receiving seasons. Gronk, Witten, Tony Gonzalez, Shannon sharpe, etc never did it

My initial reaction was no way. But I did not know this stat, that is pretty damn impressive. Has to be in consideration then.

Given that the NFL HOF is already bastardized, I suppose he merits discussion. My reservation is that he's not really a tight end. He's a slot receiver masquerading as a tight end.

Not really. He plays slot but most of the time he lines up at TE. He's not Jimmy Graham. He can block

If his career ends today it's an easy no. Five years from now I can imagine it being an easy yes.

Of course he can. The Panthers were a power running team the past 3-4 years and he was a big part of that.

Why is the NFL HOF bastardized? I'd say it's more legit than MLB or NBA. MLB won't let in some of the best players of all time and the NBA lets in anyone.

You should defer to a Bears fan here.

I don't. Is it because Mike Singletary made it in somehow?

That's fair but I think every HOF does that because they are old, pretentious dickbags. It's still more legit than the MLB or NBA ones.

How many HOF tight ends never won a super bowl? Tony Gonzalez excepted.

I just remember a big catch here and there followed by a big fumble while on the Bears.

Whoa Whoa Whoa Whoa......

Jason Witten is by far better. He has had (4) 1000yd season, as well as (1) 100 catch season. The most Olsen had(catches) is 80. Not even close on the comparison.

This may be the worst football idea that you ever posted.

Aren't there other 2-3x(if that) All-Pro TEs you can build an unnecessary drum beat of support for?

isn't his candidacy defined solely by stats? Eye test, he looks good but not special watching him play. he typically goes down upon first contact. he isnt a great blocker but at least tries.
