just saw the replay. that is a td. wtf. i dont even know what the special rules are anymore in the NFL.

bad play by the qb at the end. even w/ the trick there's 4 guys around the WR. spike it, run another play. if you dont win then an easy fg to go to OT at home.

Romo was calling for a fade instead of a slant

I haven't seen one game start to finish this year in the NFL. Is Romo good behind the mic?

Two of his last QBs were Jared Goff and Case Keenum, so the early returns say yes.

Soon as the ball breaks the plane the play should count . He had control of it when that happened . Whatever happens afterwards shouldn’t matter . Ridiculous .

He gives good analysis but he needs to lay off the caffeine

That's what I thought. I never saw an angle that showed the ball hitting the ground. They never even mentioned that though. Shocking that a close call breaks the way of New England.

Don't get the overturned call.

You'd think that but the NFL loves giving refs a chance to decide games. Pereira, the ref dude tweeted

Quote:
People are saying a runner breaking the plane causes the ball to become dead…which is true. BUT the receiver does not become a runner until he completes the process of the catch. TOTALLY DIFFERENT

This is what does not make sense to me. If that is a running play as soon as the ball breaks the plane it is over and it is a TD. Shouldn't the same be true on a reception as well? He clearly has the ball and reached for the goalline. Once he broke it play should be over.

Crazy. Sucks for the Steelers and their fans.

I think there’s enough pressure where there’s a chance they’ll change the catch rules this offseason for a step in the right direction. It wasn’t much of an issue ilrc 15-20 years ago. Just go with the clean catch/football move type criteria and leave the rest up to the judgement of the crew on common sense basis - I’ve heard it called the 9/10 idea -I.e 9/10 guys out of a bar say it’s clearly a catch, it’s a catch. An example is a Kareem Hunt target in the end zone last night that he clearly caught the ball grazed the end zone in the process of a catch. Under current rules it shouldn’t be a catch. To the eye and common sense, it was a catch.

Yeah, that was a terrible call. It would be one thing to call that on the field and stay with it. But they called it a touchdown on the field and they should have stuck with it. Instant replay is useless if they are going to continue to get the calls wrong after watching the replay.

Post subject:  Re: 2017 Season

Replay was meant to let the refs know if a runner stepped out of bounds, or if the ball was fumbled before a knee hit the ground, or if a receiver got both feet down. Something that is (mostly) cut and dried and to only be overturned with "incontrovertible visual evidence". It wasn't meant to review something that remains open to interpretation even while watching the replay. It's like the seat belt law, "oh, don't worry, we won't actually pull you over for that", now it's used as a pretext to stop people at roadblocks at 11:00p.m. at a "safety checkpoint" to make sure you are wearing one.

PITTSBURGH -- Antonio Brown, the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro wide receiver, suffered a partially torn calf muscle in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the New England Patriots, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Brown is unlikely to play next week but is expected back for the postseason, the source said.

Brown left Sunday's game early in the second quarter with a left calf injury and did not return. Team officials helped Brown off the field and to a blue tent on the sideline. He was then taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Brown attempted to catch a pass in the end zone when a Patriots defensive back appeared to roll over his left leg.

Brown is considered one of the Steelers' toughest players. He hasn't missed a regular season game because of injury since 2012.

Earlier in the game, Brown became the first receiver in NFL history with five consecutive seasons with triple-digit receptions, breaking his tie with Marvin Harrison at four.

Brown entered the Week 15 matchup with the Patriots with 99 catches.
